We had a good year at Preschool, from September 2024 to August 2025! It was nice to start the year with Leanne having been here for a year already, knowing what to expect into her second year as Manager. It wasn’t an easy start, with a large group of children leaving us in July 2024 to start school, leaving a big gap and a concerning drop in income in Autumn 2024. The staff and committee pulled together to get the word out about preschool, distributing posters and flyers, and developing a presence on social media. We were delighted that more families came along and filled the spaces in the Spring and Summer terms – we love having a thriving preschool full of children, and it means our finances were more or less balanced for the year, which helps ensure preschool remains financial sustainable.
My thanks go to Leanne, for all her efforts to encourage families to join Preschool and ensure the preschool is well-managed in every way, and to Trudi for producing helpful financial forecasts and ensuring we understood the changing financial picture through the year. We also really appreciate all the ladies on the team at Preschool, who care so well for the children day to day – for Catherine, Dawn, Helen, Mandy and Raj, along with Saz who joined more recently and has helped to fill the gaps.
The committee organised a Christmas event, with an opportunity for the children to perform the songs they had been practising, and a summer event involving a mini sports day! The events organised through the year have focussed on being opportunities for families to come and see what their children have been doing, and to feel part of the preschool community. The committee have expressed to Leanne and the team that we will help to organise fundraising events as and when a need for fundraising/new equipment is identified.
I am so thankful for the rest of the Preschool Committee, who are the trustees of the charity. In September 2024, Ali Tilson was the only member of the committee with a child still in preschool. During the year we welcomed Rachel Liu to join the committee, who also had a child at preschool, and said thank you and goodbye to Rosanna who had served on the committee for several years. As of August 2025 we had a committee of 6 people, but nobody with children at preschool! We are very grateful that Abi Evans has recently joined the committee, who is a current parent, with Ali Tilson and Becky Holgate standing down at this meeting; thank you both for your commitment to preschool over the past few years.
Our preschool committee is meant to have a minimum of 5 members, with at least 3 of those members being current parents. We are very thankful for those committee members staying on when their children have already left preschool, as without a committee preschool is not allowed to continue to operate. But we really need current parents/grandparents/carers, who can help to make sure the committee is meeting the needs of current families. Preschool needs you! If you would consider joining the committee and would like to know more about what that involves, please come and speak to me or one of the other committee members later.
We entered this academic year in September in a good position, with lots of children returning for another year. We look forward to working together, the committee, the staff, and the families, to see Preschool 345 continue to thrive and provide nurturing care for more generations of Beeston’s children in the years ahead.
