Chairmans Report:

Welcome all and here we are again at the 1[st] Panteg St Mary’s Annual General Meeting, it does not seem long since our last AGM meeting!

The group has again had a very successful and busy year, with many achievements, of which you will get to hear more about a little later.

Again, we must thank all for their continued support for the group, and of which, enables us to give all our young members all the support that is required. We have at present x150 members and x30 volunteer helpers and leaders.

A massive thank you to all our leaders for their continued dedication and leadership skills in preparing for each group meeting, thus enabling all our young members to have varied and interesting sessions, also in undertaking all relevant health and safety responsibilities to ensure all are kept safe.

Also thank you to all members of the Trustee Committee for the work they undertake behind the scenes. Also, our local Councillors and Scout Commissioners.

We must also send a huge thank you to Hannah Taylor Williams, who is now standing down from the Trustee Committee.

We are conscious that this is a very old building, I attended school here many years ago! We have a Lease agreement on the building with Torfaen Council of which is shortly to expire, we will then be renewing the agreement for a further 20yr period.

The Lease states that we are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the building.

We have over the last year been successful in securing grant funding for repairs and have renewed all the windows, installed fireproof wall and door to the kitchen, this following advice from a Fire Risk Assessment report. We have renewed the floor to the kitchen and have undertaken decorating.

We have some funds from the grant remaining, that when agreed with Torfaen we can renew the central heating boiler.

We also, going forward, will need to secure additional funding to replace the roof.

Thats all from me and again thank you very much

1[ST] Panteg (St Mary’s) Scout Group Leader 2025

I have written this report for a number of years now and each year we have lots of great things to celebrate. Mostly I need to celebrate and thank all the fantastic Scout/Cub/Beaver leaders and helpers for their unwavering commitment to providing an outstanding program for all our young people. We really have had a great year of scouting activities, and we have also been able to secure some more regular volunteers to the group. We no longer refer to leaders as leader’s, we are now volunteers with varying role descriptions. We continue to keep each of our sections full and have a healthy waiting list. We also now have a strong contingent of young leaders in most of our sections, who really add to the dynamic of each section. These young leaders have mostly been members of our scout group for many years. This year we have seen 3 of our young leaders become leaders, which is an amazing achievement.

Our capitation, from Jan 25 was based on 48 Beavers (45 previously), 53 Cubs (54 previously), and 28 Scouts (25 previously). We also had 3 young leaders (7 previously) and we registered 25 leaders and section assistants (29 previously). These numbers are because of the hard work of a talented team. Since the census was completed, all our sections have increased in number.

We also have 7 dedicated Trustees who support and advise the group. There is always room for more. The training requirements for all adults and young leaders in scouting are essential to maintain safety, safeguarding and good practice as well as delivering the program set by the Scout Association. The Scout Association has introduced a new system and a new way of working. Training is now mainly online; new volunteers must do several essential modules but are no longer required to work towards a wood bead. New welcome meetings are being established for new volunteers. Training, at the start is more rigorous and must be completed in a few months

It really is a rewarding journey for all of us. We learn together, we form lifelong friendships and, most of all, despite the challenging work, we have a bit of fun and hope the young people do as well.

I look forward to another busy and successful year.

Scout Troop AGM Annual Summary - 2025

This year has continued the long and remarkable journey for our Scout troop, brimming with adventure, learning, and personal growth. Our Scouts have taken on a wide array of new activities—from navigating dark caverns during our caving experience, scaling new heights through rock climbing, and embracing paddling their way along the canal in canoes. In true Scouting spirit, we have come together on a number of camps, each one providing new experiences, learnings and friendships.

Notably, we proudly represented our troop at the annual Gwent Trek and the prestigious All Wales Scout Camp , where our young people demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and a tremendous sense of fun. But it wasn’t all just physical adventure—this year also saw our Scouts broaden their minds and skillsets to help give them skills for life. They learned the patience of practice for their circus performance , the precision of navigation , the importance of first aid , and understanding of global issues . They even explored how marketing shapes the world around us—empowering them to better understand influence, persuasion, and creative communication.

We’re proud to celebrate the incredible achievement of five Scouts earning the Gold Chief Scout’s Award , the highest award in the Scout section. A true reflection of their hard work, leadership, and commitment.

Our troop continues to flourish, not only in numbers but in the development of our leaders—who have grown in confidence, competence, and camaraderie. This has helped us deliver richer experiences and provide even more support for every young person in our care.

All in all, it’s been a year of laughter, learning, and leadership—and we can’t wait to see what next year brings.

1st Panteg Cub Section Report (Monday & Wednesday Sessions)

Annual Report 2024 - 2025

We finished last year on a high with a trip to Llandegfedd Reservoir where the Cubs & leaders took part in water-based activities, raft building & giant SUP & then a final joint session learning Circus Skills curtesy of Circus of Positivity, then a well-earned rest for all the leaders over the summer holidays

We have been actively busy this last year doing a wide variety of activities.

The cubs have worked on an exciting variety of badges this year, activity, challenge, staged & core. We continue to aim for completing 3 or 4 a term and build on the challenge badges so many can continue to achieve their Silver Award by the end of their cub adventure.

We have welcomed some new Cubs, most have come up from Beavers & we have also said farewell to some Cubs, with many achieving their Silver award & continuing with their journey into Scouts

The September to December term started with a back to basics & a first of many litter picks around the Hall, following sessions included Nature badge activities at the Paddocks, Money Skills, annual poppy craft skills, It was then some followed by science experiments. Next was pumpkin carving & an important session on Fire safety, followed by a night hike & then a visit from the Police Community Officers finishing off the term with x-mas crafts & a joint x-mas Bowling Party.

The January to April term started with making bird feeders, international badge evening sampling foods & traditions from other countries followed by our random acts of kindness making flower pot gifts for loved ones & then an exciting visit from the Usk Observatory society where we all experienced a interactive trip around the universe. After half term it was making robots from recycled materials another night hike, bug house making & then a session of quiz & games, finishing off with some nature activities & axe blade throwing at the paddocks

The May to July term started with teaching gardening skills followed by a Treasure hunt at Pontypool Park & then Global issues badge work. After half term it was another trip to the paddocks, fire lighting & eating

smores, followed by Bike maintenance before the annual bike ride & then camp preparation. We look to finish off this term with some athletics, a hike & end of term joint session party.

We have participated in many out of session events this year including Harvest Parade, Remembrance Parade & Sleepover, Mothering Sunday Parade, continuing our support to the church & community. We also attended the All Wales Cub Fun Day at Builth Wells which the Cubs thoroughly enjoyed, so we will look to visit aging in 2 years’ time & finally we have just got back from our Group Camp at Glennywood in Bristol, our second time here, however we did have to share the camp site with some Ticks, which have all now been successfully removed from all Cubs & Leaders, despite this a great time was had by all with an action packed range of activities provided by the leaders with help from the young leaders. A BIG thank you to everyone who made this event so successful.

We have temporarily lost a couple of leaders due to personal issues this year & wish them well until their return next year, we have also had a couple move to other sections, however we have welcomed Mark Trounce, Laura Watkins, Danielle Terblance & young leaders Ioan, Lowri, Sam & Tom, all ex-Scouts to the team to help out & thank them & all Cub Leaders for their continued support, you have all done a great job & deserve a very BIG Thank You !!

We are also in the process of recruiting some more part time helpers.

It’s been an action-packed fun year & we look forward to another year of fun & activities.

Mike – Cub Leader (Wednesday)

What has the BEAVER colony done over the year?:

Well what haven’t we done over the past year it has been packed with madness as always 😊 we still have 2 healthy sized groups, there is also a waiting list as always. But there are none that are on there of the right age. We have welcomed Mark, Olivia from cubs and Keira has stayed on from being a young leader. We also have several young leaders in both groups who are a vital part of our team. I’m writing it again just encase I don’t say it enough 😊.

Summer term had a varied program we had a board game night, we made an obstacle course, we completed the cooking and also the safety badges. We also held a fantastic, sponsored walk. We took part in the jambowleree and visited the owl sanctuary. In the autumn term we completed the outdoor in 24 badge. We visited the boating lake where we dipped our feet in the river (in our shoes). We also completed our global issues badge and money skills by visiting the zero waste torfaen shop. I would also like to take the time to thank everyone that helped with my crazy poppy idea for this year’s remembrance display I couldn’t of done it without them. We also held a Christingle service with a Hannah’s crazy nativity throw in. In the spring term we did a random act of kindness session, I would like to say a big thank you to Simon for QR coding them so we were able to receive messages back from the community. We had National pizza day and held a Kaspas night which the children really enjoyed.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the leaders and helper on both nights I couldn’t do what we do without you 😊. If I don’t say it enough I’m sorry.
