**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

Rolleston Pre-School provides Early Years care for three and four year olds. Established since 1973, it is a charity run by a voluntary committee of parents who employ a team of qualified staff. Around 60 children attend Pre-school each year. We run 10, 3 hours sessions per week, with a maximum of 24 children attending each session.

We aim to provide a stimulating, happy and secure environment and offer opportunities and experiences that enable children to learn to acquire knowledge for themselves and prepare for school. We also run two parent and toddler groups each week in the village, which are a great opportunity for young families to meet.

Section D                      Achievements and performance

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**

During the year Rolleston Pre-school ran 10 supervised PreSchool sessions, of 3 hours each, a week during term time for Children aged 3 and 4 reaching 54 children and 54 families.

We were able to offer more full day sessions so that parents could have the opportunity to go back into work or work longer hours.

We launched our online learning jounral system and money was invested in staff training and new iPad’s to support this, so parents could have more up to date information on what their children were learning/experiencing at Pre-School.

In March 2020 we closed due to the national lockdown to the majority of our children we ran a few sessions for keyworker children, but we had very few at this time so it was not viable to stay open.

We continued to support families at home through our online learning journal system and weekly newsletter.

In June 2020 we re-opened to school starter children running 2 bubbles of 15 children across the week, we were very busy for this last half term and helped support children with the transition to school, while continuing to support families at home.

Throughout the year we supported 3 children on the pupil premium scheme offering them additional support with the funded hours to support their learning and help with PSE and CL skills.

As a charity we also funded 2 SEN places for 15 hours each a week for the year so that those children could be supported on a 1:1 basis and have the same opportunity as their peers when entering primary education. As a charity we were able to purchase some new books around a project on animals to support the children’s learning at home, and ran 1 full weeks of forest school’s activities, as well as 4 WOW days in the autumn term funding extra staffing and resources to provide different learning experiences for the children. We purchased new tools and had staff training on how to use these tools.

We updated our library of books with fundraising money this year, and we were able to a maths and a Christmas craft parent stay and play sessions after school.

We made activity bags with resources to use at home for all the children who were unable to return in June. These included, baking kits, gardening and crafts kits.

We subscribed to an educational online website that parents could access at home again to support learning onsite and at home.

The outdoor area was professional cleaned with jet washing and

all the canopied area and shed was repainted, along with the facets on the building and benches in the playground area. We purchased 2 new blackboards, large garden planters, and outdoor signs.

Rolleston Pre-school ran 2 playgroup sessions for babies, toddlers and Pre-school children aged 0-4 for 1.5 hours each week term time, reaching 60 children and 40 families welcoming anyone from the immediate and wider local communities.

The committee and staff are always busy thinking of new ways to raise funds and to get involved in the community. This years’ activities included:

- Treasure hunt around the village for families - running a Halloween Disco for families in the village and wider community to enjoy; - running a “Jingle Mingle” event for parents and children of the Pre-school to attend together to make a variety of Christmas decorations; - providing a Craft workshop at the school fair - hosting our annual Nativity for all our children to take part in; - parents and committee members helping the Round Table on a Santa Run - (Due to Lockdown lots of our events had to be cancelled) - However, we were able to hold an online raffle which was very successful

Funds raised as a result of these activities go to improving the resources of the Pre-school to enhance the learning opportunities for those who attend.

You **may choose** to include additional information, where relevant about:

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;

- investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.

- The predominant source of funding for the Pre-School come from the Early Years’ Grant (in excess of 77%, FY17 63%). This increase is as a result of the introduction of 30 hours/week free childcare available to all 3 and 4 year olds where parents meet the relevant requirements and those who are entitled to the 15 hours free childcare only.

Additional sources of funding come from fees for children accessing sessions not covered by free childcare hours, lunchtime care and contributions for snacks and one-off events provided in the setting, fundraising efforts and donations received.

The Pre-School operates from a site rented from Staffordshire county council based on the John of Rolleston Primary infant school site.

The most significant expenditure for the Pre-School is that of the teaching staff who are key to the success of the aims of the charity.

During the year significant investment has been made in new resources and staff development to help broaden the learning opportunities for the children at Pre-school. Some of these resources include a new iPad’s, and online training, wood work resources, books, outdoor maintenance and resources. The training covers areas such as wood work, new learning journal system. In addition, a full exterior repaints of the canopy and shed has taken place to ensure the Pre-school is well maintained.

- the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);

- how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;
