Yearly Overview 2020-21
Following on from an unexpected global pandemic earlier in the year, this September we still found ourselves
very much working with uncertainty and dealing with the impacts of COVID and the changes it brought with
it, adapting and moulding to new ways of working and lifestyles.
We re-opened our doors in September following social distancing guidelines between staff and parents using
a new drop-off system at the gate and continued the health and safety routines with the children. Everyone
pulled together and we welcomed back 32 children through our doors.
Full credit to the whole team whom l am ever so proud of. and Sian in particular as a new manager whom
successfully juggled managing new staff whilst adapting to a new setting alongside the challenges we faced
with COVID. Thankfully we have fantastic parental support and we pulled through the winter temi. Sian has
been continually supported by her deputy, Ashley, and together they have formed a hardworking, dedicated,
team of six. A huge congratulations to Ashley who completed her BSIHonsl Degree in Childhood studies. We
were sad to see Amie leave due to personal reasons, however she was swiftly replaced by Jen.
During the AGM a whole new committee was elected (apart from Bev}. With it brought new faces and fresh
ideasl In January it was announced that secondary school children had to be home schooled which brought
extra pressure on staff and parents. We were very fortunate that early years settings remained open. Another
lockdown did however mean fundraising events had to once again be put on hold. Much to our frustration we
persevered by planning ahead and using the 40 Birthday ofthe Pre-school for a celebratory sponsored walk
going BIG with a'wallop Waddle" The committee, staff, parents and community astounded us by its success
and the children raised an exceptional amount of money- we are ever so proud of them alll As restrictions
started to ease, our usual events including the Village Fete, cake sales, jumble sales (car bootll. were able
to go ahead and we received generous private donations from parents, Leckford Estate, N.W Social Club,
and one parent even jumped out of an aeroplane for usl Our Tesco Bags for Life grant came through and the
Wish List for gifting desired resources was all wamily received. We are always extremely grateful forthis kind
generosity.
Sadly however, it wasn't long before COVID stuck our setting and 2 members of staff tested positive resulting
in a 10 day closure. We decided to freeze fee's and furloughed our staff. Fortunately, no one was badly
affected by the virus and we got through it.
Having a healthy fundraising amount, we have managed to carry out vital interior building work to three
separate areas of the building. Two new mud kitchens and potting tables were bought to assist with the Staffs
Forest School training programme that we have now been able to fund all 6 members to (x)mplete, along with
new toys and resources and 6 staff ipads I cases. The website has been updated with current content and
fresh images along with all policies updated. A £25 enrolment fee was introduced to retain a child's place and
cover admin processing fees.
Our numbers for September remain high and our ac(xiunts are looking solid. placing us in a very strong
position to start 2021122 off on a positive note when hopefully we will see life retum to full normality again.
Moving on to 2021122
Having a fantastic team of staff and a dedicated committee l am both very proud of, we are in a strong and
exciting position to push the Pre-school to its next level of changes which hopefully will include seeing the
completion of all Forest School Training assessments when staff can then deliver the Birth - 5 years
programme using a variety of newtechniques. We understand that OFSTED can visit at any time of year, but
we are due an inspection. so this is something we need to be prepared for and welcome. Our next big
development is the free flow garden flooring and replacing it with a more robust, safe and child-friendly surface
and resources. There is still uncertainly how COVID will affect us all this winter but together, with the endless
support and generosity of our community, we can only go from strength to strength.
