The charity is controlled by its governing document, Pre-school Learning Alliance Model Pre-school Constitution 2011, and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

Recruitment and appointment of new trustees

is by election.

Risk management

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

Additional governance issues

Our Charity aims to enhance and develop the educational, developmental and emotional needs of pre-school children from two years of age until they commence primary school

All of our committee members are given a full induction into the pre-school and are invited to attend training on their roles and responsibilities held by the Pre-school Learning Alliance, who also hold regular committee network meetings.

We work in conjunction with the Pre-school Learning Alliance and closely follow EYFS guidelines and Ofsted regulations.

Our staff continually attend training courses to update their practice

Staff and committee work together to ensure policies and procedures are in place and are continually updated as necessary.

Objectives and Activities

Objectives and aims

Our main objective as set out in our constitution, is to encourage the education and development of children under statutory school age, by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through our pre-school.

Significant activities

To enhance developmental and educational needs of pre-school children, working in partnership with parents offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, ensuring opportunities for all children.

Our Pre-School, which opened in 1994, is operated as a non-profit making charity and run by fully qualified staff, with a voluntary committee. We offer education and care for children from the age of 2 years until they leave to start primary school as a rising 5 year old. We are registered with Ofsted as a day care provider to care for a maximum of 21 children.

Our small pre-school offers high quality childcare in a lovely location very close to White Rock Primary School, and next to a very child friendly park which we make regular use of.

We pride ourselves on creating a cheerful, caring atmosphere for our children, and we have a high staff to child ratio to ensure individual care and attention. Our well qualified staff look at the next steps required for every child to develop to their full potential, by the use of regular observation and assessment of each child as defined by the EYFS.

Achievements and Performance

Main achievements

We have continued to develop firm relationships with our parents inviting them to events that the children participate in and providing them with opportunities to attend the pre-school during sessions. We continue to utilise various opportunities for fundraising and have various successful fundraising events throughout the year. Raising in the region of £1,500, which is directly reinvested and used to upgrade or replace equipment and resources.

We have continued to provide outstanding quality care and education to the children in our care as highlighted in our recent Ofsted inspection in May 2024.

Financial Review

Reserves policy

Reserves are held to secure staff payments in relation to redundancy. Any proceeds carried forward are reinvested and used to replace and upgrade equipment and resources.

Approved by order of the board of trustees on 19/06/24
