My year as Presldent was fortunate as It was the flrstfully normal year slnce 201912020.
l and my commlttees set very ambltlous targets for thls year, as in addltlon to our support for OLJr normal charltles, we
commltted ourselves to a four-year plan, for a range of proJects, for Chltlpl School in MalawS. Specifically for thls project,
we recelved a very generous donatlon of £3.000 from the Abln8ton Avenu@ Reform Church. Thls was supported with
number of other donatlons and a Successful Dlstrlct Grant of £2,000. We also Instlgated 2 new fund-raislng events, the
Inaugural Becket Derby& In July 2023 whlch ralsed almost £6,000 and a Jazz Nlght In March thls year raislng over £2,000.
In addltlon, the Internatlonal Commlttee, worklng very hard. establlshed a number of relatlonshlps with other Rotary
aubs who pledged 5UPPOrt for thls proSect. In the last few weeks, the flrst phase has been completed.
All of our normal fundralslng events have or were held In¢ludlng the Santa Slelgh, Santa Fun Run, Qulz Nlght, Kartln&
Jokers Breakfast, and our Annual Golf Day. These were well 5UPPOrted and exceeded expectatlons. The Christmas
schedule was partl¢ularly demandlng. The Santa Slelgh bookings Increased In the year. In addition to normal schedules.
we had a number of communlty events Includlng the Santa Carol Serllce, St Crispins Retirement Village and Duston
School. The demand on Club members was high butthe challenge was met.
Followlng a breakfast presentation, the Club agreed to purchase and deliver an Ambulance to support the war in UkTalne.
We ￿ceiVed conslderable 5UPPOrt from Toweester Rotsry Club. The Ambulance was purchased. stocked wlth medical
equipmentand winter clothing. It was flnally dellvered just after the year end, In person by Terry Atkinson and David
Smith.
We enteréd four taarns in the Treekly Challenge, a walking event held throughout March. to plant 8LNJ trees. There wa5
conslderable in.house competltlon between the four teams with the result that colle¢tlvely we recorded over 2 mllllon
steps, easlly reachlng our target.
Several of our members faced some serious health Issues in the last year. All dealt wlth these challenges and have
contlnued to play thelr part in our Rotary Club. It Is with sadness however that shortly after the year end, we lostAlan
Panton followlng a long-term Illness.
Breakfasts have been very well attended. We have Inau8urated several new member5. Thls has had the effect of
Increasing the percentage of female members and 8reatly reduclng the average age of our membershlp. These
newcomers have contrlbuted rn05t enthuslastlcally. Jackle Barnaby has already agreed to become Pfesldent In 2026 and
Louise Graham, to Chalr our Fund-Ra151n8 Cornmlttee yaar.
l am very pleased that we have a successlon plan In place for at least the next 3 years.
