We continue to be grateful for the support of our families, staff, and the wider community as we navigate this chapter together. ## **Farewells and Welcomes** We said goodbye to our school leavers in July and welcomed a wonderful new group of children into our preschool in September. Currently, we have 37 children enrolled, with more set to join us after Easter. We’re also pleased to have a healthy waiting list for September, a testament to the strong reputation our preschool continues to build. ## **In Loving Memory of Susie** In June, we experienced a great loss when our longest serving team member, our beloved Deputy Leader, Susie, passed away at home on June 14, 2024. Susie had been a dedicated and loving member of our team for over 25 years. Her presence and impact on the children, families, and staff were immeasurable. Susie will always be remembered fondly, and we continue to miss her deeply. ## **A Special Tribute to Susie** In honour of Susie’s dedication to Penge Community Preschool, we have painted the shed in the preschool garden as a special memory. The shed was her domain, where she spent her time preparing outdoor activities for the children. We would like to dedicate it to her memory, as it serves as a lasting symbol of her love and commitment to the preschool and the children she so dearly cherished. ## **A Warm Welcome to Liane, Our New Deputy Leader** We are delighted to introduce Liane as our new Deputy Leader. Liane started her early years career at Penge Community Preschool as a support worker. She trained here and later qualified as a Level 3 practitioner. Having worked both within our setting and other nurseries, Liane is thrilled to return to Penge Community Preschool in this new role. We are excited to have her back on the team and look forward to the positive impact she will make. ## **Congratulations to Preschool Manager Chloe – Expecting a Baby Boy!** We are delighted to share the exciting news that our Preschool Manager, Chloe, is expecting her first baby! Chloe’s baby boy is due in June, and she will be taking maternity leave starting after the May half term. We are all thrilled for Chloe and wish her all the very best during this special time. We look forward to welcoming her back when she is ready, and we know she will be greatly missed by the team and the children during her time away. ## **Thank You to Rotary and Anerley Methodist Church** We would like to extend a huge thanks to the Rotary Club for their continued support and generous offer of donations. This year, we made the decision to respectfully decline any financial assistance, as we felt that their contributions could be better directed toward those in greater need. We are truly grateful for their kindness and 3 ongoing commitment to our community. A big thank you also to Anerley methodist Church for continuing to support the preschool, as always. ## **Our Dedicated Committee and New Opportunities** We are fortunate to have Sandra Hynes continue as our Chairperson. As always, Sandra plays an active and supportive role in the preschool’s activities and growth. We also thank David Hynes, who continues to serve as our Treasurer. As we welcome new children, we are actively seeking to grow our Parent Committee. If you are interested in becoming part of our committee and contributing to the future of Penge Community Preschool, please don't hesitate to speak with a member of staff. We would love to have you join us! ## **Training and Development** We remain committed to ensuring that all of our staff are up-to-date with their training and development. We pride ourselves on creating an environment where children can thrive, and our team is continually developing their skills to better support their needs. ## **Our Values** At Penge Community Preschool, we are proud to promote fundamental British values in an age-appropriate way. Through this, children learn the difference between right and wrong, practice sharing and respect for one another’s values, and understand the importance of challenging negative attitudes and stereotypes. These teachings are woven into our daily activities, helping children understand the diversity of the world around them. ## **Learning Through Play and Developmental Areas** At Penge Community Preschool, we believe that play is central to every child’s learning. Through play, children explore, experiment, and express themselves. It supports their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. We foster an environment where play is purposeful and engaging, and where learning naturally happens through exploration and interaction with their peers, teachers, and resources. Here’s a look at how we encourage key areas of development through play: ## 1. **Communication and Language:** We provide opportunities for children to develop their speaking and listening skills through group activities, storytelling, and role play. We encourage children to express their thoughts, ideas, and feelings, helping to build their vocabulary and communication skills in a supportive environment. ## 2. **Physical Development:** Physical play is essential for developing fine and gross motor skills. We offer a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, such as running, and using sensory materials, to help children build strength, coordination, and balance. Activities such as drawing, threading, and using scissors also support the development of fine motor skills. ## 3. **Personal, Social, and Emotional Development:** We create an environment where children learn to understand and manage 4 their emotions, develop friendships, and work collaboratively. Through group activities, role-playing, and circle time, we encourage children to share, take turns, and resolve conflicts in a positive way. These interactions help children build self-esteem and emotional intelligence. ## 4. **Literacy:** We provide a literacy-rich environment where books, songs, and storytelling are central to the learning experience. Children are encouraged to develop a love for reading and writing through play-based activities, such as looking at picture books, drawing and practicing their name writing. ## 5. **Mathematics:** Through everyday activities like sorting, counting, and measuring, children begin to develop their understanding of numbers and shapes. We use playbased resources like building blocks and puzzles to introduce mathematical concepts in a fun and engaging way. ## 6. **Knowledge and Understanding of the World:** - Children are encouraged to explore their environment and make connections to the world around them. Through activities such as nature walks and gardening, we help children develop an understanding of how things work, the environment, and different cultures and traditions. ## 7. **ICT (Information and Communication Technology):** - While technology is just one part of the preschool experience, we provide children with opportunities to use simple ICT resources, such as educational apps, and programmable toys. These tools help develop problem-solving and creative thinking skills. ## 8. **Expressive Arts and Design:** Creativity is at the heart of our preschool. We encourage children to express themselves through various forms of art, music, dance, and role play. Whether it’s painting, singing, or building with blocks, children are given the freedom to explore their imagination and develop their artistic skills. ## **Parent Engagement and Fun Activities** This year, we held a successful parents day at Christmas. This event provided a wonderful opportunity to meet with parents, discuss their children’s progress, and share in the joy of seeing the children’s wonderful work. We also organized two fun-filled disco parties for the children: one at the end of the summer term and another at Christmas. Both events were thoroughly enjoyed by the children and staff, creating lasting memories for all involved. In June, we held a special “graduation” photoshoot for our school leavers, a tradition we plan to continue this year. These moments mark an important milestone in the children’s preschool journey and are treasured by families. 5 ## **New Equipment and Generous Donations** This year, we’ve added to our collection of resources with the purchase of new sensory toys, which have been especially beneficial for children with additional needs. We’ve also ensured that our paint and consumables are regularly restocked, ensuring that we have a wide variety of materials for the children to explore and create with. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the generous toy donations from parents. Your contributions have helped enrich our preschool environment, and we are incredibly thankful. Additionally, we are grateful to Sandra and Dave for the donation of a trampoline for the children. This gift has already provided much joy and physical activity for the children. ## **Looking Ahead** As we continue into the next year, we remain committed to providing a nurturing, educational environment where every child is valued and supported. Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of the Penge Community Pre-school Registered Charity No. 1027244 I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Penge Community Pre-school (the Trust) for the year ended 31 st March 2025. Responsibilities and basis of report As the charity Trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act.). I report in respect of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent examiner's ststement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act" or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
