The playgroup received a donation from a variety of local community groups which was put towards Sign and Sign sessions for the children to help develop their language and communication skills which also allowed 2 children who with significant additional needs in this area of development to communicate with their peers and their teachers.

Section D Achievements and performance Summaryachievements of theof main the charity pasarpoli rrte: the year on 5"th September 2024;: one member during tke year Ofsted inspected Sparrows as we started back in September resulting in a disappointing “requires improvement” grade. The children started to learn their colours, listening to the Colour Monster story and talked about their feelings. They made rainbow pictures and enjoyed mixing and experimenting with different colours. Harvest festival was celebrated, parents and children donated to the Church’s Porch Pantry, they also learnt about where food comes from, how they are grown and sampled new tastes and textures. The children and staff made a Farm Yard out of cereal boxes; the children used their imagination and their knowledge about the animals to play and create stories with the play animals. The children who were starting school were invited to visit Mersea Island School with their parents and Sparrows welcomed back one member of staff from maternity leave. Leading up to Christmas the children celebrated Halloween and Bonfire Night learning about safety around fireworks and fire. Sparrows held an open day on 16" November and welcomed prospective parents and their children. Activities were available for the children to experience and staff were available to speak with parents and answer any questions. Sparrows achieved 2™ place at the Christmas Tree Festival with “That’s not my snowman” and the children worked on a variety of Christmas themed activities and crafts. The children were invited to Mersea Island school to watch the Early Years Nativity Play and visited the elderly residents of Hall Barn to deliver gifts, cards and sing Christmas songs together. The Christmas party was held on 17° December with Timmy the Elf and Bernard the Snowman to entertain the children. Father Christmas came to deliver presents which were donated by Micro Scooters (local family run company) which were drinks bottles and bottle holder and some stickers. Spring Term started on 6"" January 2025 continuing the theme of colours and introducing shapes. 

Chinese New Year was celebrated, the year of the Snake, where the children made snakes and looked at the numbers 1 to 5 in Chinese. The Manager and Deputy Manager retired from Sparrows on the 14" February 2025 and a new Manager was in place ready for rest of the Spring Term from 24" February 2025. A current member of staff was promoted to Deputy Manager and Sparrows continued to run as normal. In March the Deputy Manager resigned for personal reasons, and a new Deputy Manager was taken on. Both the new Manager and Deputy Manager completed their Safeguarding Levels 2 and 3 (DSL) together with First Aid where needed.

## Achievements and performance 

Sparrows also started to offer Wednesday’s from April after many comments at how having the full week would be beneficial to parents and their children. 

Ofsted returned to Sparrows on 6" June and Sparrows were graded as GOOD overall and, in every area, they were happy that the key actions that were raised in the previous Inspection were now met. 

Staff supervision meetings took place to ensure staff were feeling supported and additional CPD was put in place to ensure all staff were up to date with their understanding of the EYFS and children’s development. 

To round of the year the children had a trip to” Wellies on” Farm, where the children and their families had hands on experience with different animals and the working life on a farm. 

As the summer term came to an end 9 children were preparing to leave for primary school and 4 additional children left as the parents required longer hours which Sparrows were unable to provide. 

As Sparrows closed for the summer there wasa total of 6 children on role for September 2025 and 4 members of staff.
