1. Welcome, Apologies & Chairs Report – Sophie Bowman
Highlights of the year
-
Massive thank you to the whole PTA team this year for making all our events so successful and profitable. Great team working and use of innovative ideas such as Adventure Island tickets and Southend Sealife Adventure, Christmas Panto tickets and some returning favourites including Bag2School and Preloved uniform
-
We Welcomed Jackie joining the PTA as Secretary – Massive thank you to Fiona and Annika for easing Jackie in with the transition over the year – Jackie has been a wonderful asset to the team and has got stuck in from the get go revamping our Facebook Page, tackling uniform and supporting all of the events throughout the year whilst being a mum to three children on maternity leave!
-
We welcomed 2 beautiful PTA babies Ivy and Bebe – I would like to personally thank Suzy for stepping up as Co-Chair for the year, we make a fantastic team and play to each other’s strengths, Su is the best buyer in the country and is a fantastic asset to the committee.
-
Creating a robust preloved uniform service on a monthly basis – ensuring all parents and carers have access to affordable uniform – we continued with a New Starters sale which again has been very popular and well received amongst new parents/carers
How we involve children in making purchases & How children have been benefted
-
-New playground Sails which have been in use throughout the summer
-
We will continue to fund the Xmas pantomime which all years get to enjoy
-
Secret shops 3 times a year have been a roaring success. Making sure no children are excluded from choosing a gift
-
Year 6 students were able to have a stall at the Summer Fair selling cakes
-
No Child goes Cold Initiative– A variety of brand new FatFace coasts have been purchased at a reduced cost which will be given out by the school as an when needed by children
How we give parents carers opportunity to ask questons / make suggestons
-
One nominated person dealing with feedback in an positive way – then sharing feedback with the wider team and coming up with solutions
-
Not taking feedback negatively – Not using Facebook/social media as a negative platform
-
Coming to a resolution with parents/carers when there is a complaint and looking at how we can improve events in the future.
-
Continuing to use our Social Media platform to advertise events has been useful and sharing out facebook page at new starter events. Big thanks to Jackie who has taken over the care of our facebook page throughout the year which has grown our page over the last twelve months
-
More presence now at new starter events which hopefully will generate more new parents/carers will want to join
Feedback received this year
-
Lost property was difficult to reunite with children – The PTA have now taken on responsibility for sorting through lost property. We arrange as an when required to sort and reunite uniform with children, taking unform back to classes, bringing the lost property box as part of our uniform and using any unclaimed non labelled uniform as part of the Pre Loved Uniform Sale. Any clothes that have been unclaimed and unlabelled are also recycled with thew Bag2School Scheme in which the PTA generates a profit
-
Some parents of children with allergies where not happy with the gifts being used for the Easter Bingo ( Bag of sweets and a Easter Craft Bag) the sweets did contain gluten that was problematic for one child resulting in them only being able to have a craft bag as also had a dairy allergy – when we plan our Bingo event this year we will try and find a more suitable gift for older children with allergies
