The aim of the Association shall be to advance the education of children below compulsory school age in Carleton Rode and its surrounding villages by; 

- (a) providing safe and satisfying group play, in which parents have the right to take part 

- (b) encouraging other charitable activities through which parents may help the children. 

Carleton Rode Playgroup is a small, friendly committee managed preschool providing a varied, interesting and informative Early Years education and childcare for children between the age of two to five years from Carleton Rode and the surrounding villages. 

We offer 15 and 30 hours free government funding per week for children aged 3- 4 years, additional hours are also available. We also have children who meet the criteria for 2 year old funding.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

|**Summary of the main**<br>**achievements of the charity**<br>**during the year**|We welcomed a large number of children to preschool at the beginning of<br>this academic year due to a local preschool closure.<br>As pupil numbers increase the pre-school increases staff hours to ensure<br>ratios are maintained. All sessions are covered by a minimum of 2<br>qualified members of staff plus 1 additional staff member as ratios<br>require. All staff are fully qualified. 2 members of staff qualified at the end<br>of the year (July & August 2025)<br>Throughout the year parents have been invited into pre-school for a<br>meeting with their child’s key worker, 3 story cafes (The<br>Gruffalo, the Tiger who came to tea and the Kitchen Disco) and the<br>Leaver’s Assembly. The preschool has a special bear ‘Ted the Bear’ who<br>goes home with each child at least once in the year, providing further<br>links between home and preschool.<br>Parents and children have also been invited to Easter and Summer craft<br>mornings which take place during the holidays to help with fundraising for<br>the preschool.<br>The Preschool follows the EYFS statutory framework and has covered<br>many topics within sessions. Some of the topics covered this year were:<br>‘All about me’, ‘My family’ and ‘Who lives in my house’<br>Autumn<br>Winter animals/hibernation<br>Day and night<br>Christmas<br>Weather<br>Chinese New Year<br>The Big Garden birdwatch<br>Lifecycles<br>Holidays and travel<br>Getting school ready!<br>The children have also enjoyed some wonderful special days over<br>the course of the Preschool year including a Christmas Party and a<br>summer trip to the Playbarn!<br>The children also had visits from:<br>-<br>The tractors<br>-<br>An ice cream van<br>-<br>The police/police car<br>-<br>Sally and her silent disco<br>-<br>The Road safety bears.<br>We continue to follow in the moment planning so activities are planned<br>based on children’s interests.<br>A number of fundraising events have taken place throughout the year<br>including:<br>-<br>2 activity mornings that have been organised and run by the staff<br>during school holidays.<br>-<br>3 Bag2School collections<br>-<br>A family bingo night<br>-<br>Children’s bingo<br>-<br>Tesco blue token scheme.<br>-<br>£400 donated for the Preschool at a gift shopping fundraising<br>event.|

We should aim to maintain reserves equivalent to three months’ running costs (approximately £22,386.94) to ensure the nursery’s stability in the event of funding delays or unexpected expenses. As of 19 October 2025, our reserves stand at £19,024.23, and we will continue to build towards our target level.
