have responded with enthusiasm and vigour to a changing world over the
last f ew years, to be more inclusive and provide a safe and welcoming place
for young people to thrive in. The youth club of f ers f our f ull time sessions

young people to give of their best and build strong characters. Oxhill
Youth Club continues to be associated with the Duke of Edinbur9h Award
program, and the Key, Fun and Food, Durham Association of Boys and Girls
Clubs and North East Youth all of which has been very supportive during
the last year. We are part of Stanley Youth Consortium in response to
f indin9 f unding and working together on projects.
This year we celebrated 62 years as a youth club serving the young people
of the community. A great achievement and a big thank you to everyone
over the years who have helped make this possible.

April
This month three young people along with Joanne and Kyle attended the High
Sheriff Youth Awards, which had a circus theme. We were thrilled to come
home with the top award and cheque. We later found out that a donor in the
room that night had decided to match fund the prize money to spend on our
young people. we attended a table tennis competition, where one of ourjuniors
did extremely well, followed by a pool competition where we had 5 winners and
1 runner up. The cooking project continues and we have started to work on the
garden project for later in the year. We had one young person attended a
Durham leaders course ran by NE Youth and we had three young people
attend a residential again through NE Youth. Four young people attended a
junior first aid course.
May
we took 12 young people to watch the Newcastle United women's football
match at St James Park which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Creative Kitchen
came, along side Chris the sports coach to do an active kitchen session with
the juniors. This included, dodgeball, trampolining and cooking. Continued
work on the garden project, ideas, planning, planting, sorting, coordinating
events ready forjudging in the next couple of months is in full swing. Members
have been involved in planning activities for the summer. We held a party for
the Kings Coronation, with afternoon tea, games and a at night a royal rave.
Intermediates did a sexual health and beer goggles session. Dave from fun
and food and Fiona from One Point came along to speak to our senior about
their views and opinions as, and what to see and do in the area, and were
impressed by the members. We had a visit from David Gray on behalf of the
Sir Tom Cowie Fund, who match funded our prize from the High Sheriff. He
was very impressed with the club and the young people. With the warmer
weather we have been enjoying the outdoors with trampolining, swing ball,
basketball, and chalking on the ground. Had a visit from the local Fire Service
who talked about water safety and opportunities with the fire seNice. We were
granted some funding for new sports equipment.

June
Work has continued on the garden project throughout with a theme around
some of the activities taken place in our youth club over the last 60 years,
ready for judging by Northumbria and Stanley Council Blooming Good Fun in
the coming months. Four young people attended a sailing residential on the
James Cook ship with Durham association and for once had really good sailing
weather. Our juniors attended the Apple Store in the metro centre for some
invention and coding workshops and they all loved it, this was made available
through Durham association. Funding for Food and Fun is in progress and all
sections have been asked for their ideas.
July
We had seven young people attend an athletics competition at Shildon through
the Durham Association and actually came 1st 2nd and 3rd in some events, well
done all if possible we would like to team up with Derwentside Athletic group to
help train our young people. Two members with Joanne attended the KEY
awards at Newcastle Crown Plaza and our very own Amber Mccormack sang
in front of everyone as part of the entertainment. A senior trip to South Shields
music festival was arranged to see the Vamps, this went down really well.
Through the Fun and Food activities we took the Junior section to Adventure
Valley where they had a whale of a time despite the weather. All other usual
youth club activities continued including last minute preparation for the garden
which is looking so interesting and colourful, water fight including slip and slide
which was great fun for everyone including staff.
August
This was again a very busy month with special summer activities for all
members of the youth club. We had a group of intermediates and seniors who
went to Weardale Adventure through Durham association and they loved every
minute of rock climbing and canoeing. With the High Sheriffs award we took a
bus full of 44 members, 3 leaders and 5 volunteers to Flamingo land. This was a
real treat and the highlight of the summer for some members who hadn't bp.en
anywhere in the holidays. They all had a fantastic time and loads of memories.
Other trips with the help of Fun and Food were to Hamsterley Forest for the
seniors , leaning skills and team building and Lilidoreri at Alnwick gardens for
everyone, where they all had an amazing time. Days at the youth club through the
summer were an animal day, with ducks, rabbits, Guinea pigs, snakes, spiders and
creepy crawlies, which of course the kids loved. We had a film day for juniors and

scary film night for the older ones. The Durham association also provided us with
unforgettable days way doing surfing in the north sea, rock pooling, and army hard
day at Catterick Army camp with the soldiers, camouflage, and boot camp activities
as well as talks about life in the army. Members got to go on a go cart competition
and again did really well. These summer activities were all made possible in this
economic climate with help from Durham Association and Fun and Food and gave
our young people hope, encouragement , fun and pleasure throughout the summer.
We attended a swimathon with Stanley Rotary Club, and members swam three and
a half miles and raised money for charity. The garden project was judged and now
we can just wait. At Durham Youth Council Awards ceremony at Beamish Hall, both
Alyssa and Jazz won role models of the year, Chloe won sports person of the year
for karate ,well done girls. We also won youth club of the year for which we are all
so proud.
September
We attended the Durham Association of Boys and Girls Club awards night at
Ramside Hall, we took 20 young people with us. They collected their pool winners
awards, our sailing participants awards, athletics and first aid training awards. Our
volunteers collected their Betty Woodward award and Kyle received the Sir Bob
Murry Award for commitment and dedication to youth work and young people. Our
Seniors members went Go karting. Members moved up to other sections and new
members were welcomed in the junior sections for a months transitions. Normal
youth club activities continued throughout the month to help with transition.
October
Gail and Alyssa attended the Britain in bloom awards at Gateshead and we were
awarded level 4, thriving, for our garden, so proud, hard work certainly paid off.
Members from all age groups decided to do some tie dying organised by the
volunteers. We used all of the white tee shirts we had kept from panto and the fun
began. It took a while to tie then dye and eventually dry but they all took them home
with pride. UV Dodgeball still continues as a favourite among members. We took a
group of intermediates and seniors to Beamish Museum fright Night, which of
course they loved through fun and food. Together with volunteers and some senior
members a maze was constructed in the sports hall, this gave members from all
sections the chance to make their way through without trying to cry or scream. It
was a huge success and some even went in twice, Juniors also had trick or treat
behind the doors where they could collect 'goodies" if they found the right person
behind the various door within the club as they kept moving around.

November
Kyle and Joanne attended the Stanley Blooming Good Fun awards for the
garden and we were awarded 3, in business class, again another good result.
Dark night mean lots of indoor activities, and although we have high numbers
members seem to spread themselves out over the various areas, which
makes it more manageable for leaders and volunteers to supervise and
interact with members. We attended the North East Youth Project with pride
awards at the Gosforth hotel, where Sarah was a nominated for a volunteer ,
Alyssa for young volunteer, the youth club for project of the year for our fund
raising for the defibrillator we installed. Gail received the Keystone award for
50 years working with young people at Oxhill.
December
As our yearly event of'l'm a celebrity get me out of here" We did our
traditional bush tucker trials again with our intemediates and seniors, which
was as usual very entertaining with sick buckets and milk at the ready. The
juniors had a 'polar express nighf, they wore PJ'S, had hot dogs, hot
chocolate and watched the film. We held our Christmas performance, raffle
and awards night in mid-December. It was very well attended by parents,
grandparents and carers. Members sang carols, told the story of the night
before Christmas, held a raffle and tombola. This was followed by awards
certificates for all those present, may be for the best laugh, best smiley face,
best artist etc but everyone got a certificate. This was followed by hot
chocolate and cookies. Fun and food helped with the two Christmas parties,
the seniors and intermediates voted to have a snow board simulator and
assault course while the juniors went for a disco and games. Between
Christmas and new year fun and food gave us funding to take 53 members to
Whitley Bay ice rink, they had the rink to themselves and some made really
good progress on the ice followed by food back at the youth club. A great end
to the year. Over all we catered for 138 young people over the Christmas
period with fun and food. Our leader Joanne was asked to join the board of
Durham Association of Boys and Girls Club.
January 2024
Start of the new year we had crime stoppers knife crime team who came to
talk to our seniors mainly. This workshop involved video, questions, discussion
and participation. This really interested the members and they got a great deal
out of it and the team were extremely with the members input. Throughout the
month all sections have undertaken CPR training and have been shown how
to use the defibrillator correctly. The juniors found this really interesting with

loads of questions and interest. Leaders have also been able to offer this
support session to young members of Craghead Football club and Tiger Cubs
karate. Usual youth club activities continue with sport hall, games room, table
tennis, floor gym mats, art and chatter.
February
pancake day when leaders made over 70 pancakes for members, which went
down really well. Other usual activities such as table tennis, UV sports hall
activities art and crafts with cards for valentines day, and a hair salon for
curls, twirls and straitening. Use of the games room and Princes Trust asked
for their input as to what they needed as this was going to be one of their
projects. The kids give load of ideas and cant wait to see what happens next.
March
a group of our seniors took part in a fun and food panel to approve other
groups applications. This gave them an insight as to what other groups did
and enjoyed the feed back on their performance. Another group of young
people attended a meeting for the new usage of Stanley Board School which
has been derelict for over 1 years. They mad sure their ideas and input was
recorded and counted towards its new usage. Other usual activities continue
on a session basic and cover a wide variety of activities chosen by members
A big thank you to all the leaders, volunteers and helpers that have made this
yet another exceptional year for everyone at Oxhill
