Parents/carers have flexible options so they can choose sessions to fit with their other commitments to work and or care of their other children and wider family commitments. Most sessions are funded through the government funding for pre-school children but extended sessions are offered at a below market rate to support families. The playgroup has very many families on low income or benefits. Many children within the area are on pupil premium due to their low income status. The playgroup has been a true community resource for over 30 years adapting to and supporting the needs of local families. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; The playgroup has always been an opportunity for local young people offering volunteering and work experience for students of our local schools and colleges. The playgroup also has regular volunteers who themselves have learning difficulties which offers them experiences in helping others and being part of their community. This can also offer respite to their Carers. - contribution made by volunteers. **TAR** March **2012** 2 ## Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity** Most of the year has been a very different playgroup to that of previous **during the year** years as the staff battled with Covid risk assessing to be able to support our families at the most appropriate level. As an early years setting the playgroup has been open for most of the pandemic, even when schools were closed, in line with government guidelines. This has been the primary focus and has supported our local families above and beyond. Many on our register are from vulnerable families and live in flats so with the country in lockdown the children were shut in. Our playgroup being open meant that not only did the preschool age children get outside to play but it gave respite to parents managing/home schooling older siblings. For the few weeks in March and April 2020 when the centre was closed by law, the staff who were able to bubble or socially distance in our large outside play area, used their time on site working on the outside play areas painting and renewing play equipment to improve facilities for the children. Our board of trustees are very proud of the way the staff managed the pandemic to benefit the children in our care and their families. ## **Section E Financial review** **Brief statement of the** The charity now has good reserves with reserves held in two different **charity’s policy on** banks to ensure security. We are a small but dedicated team working hard in our community to support others.
