ROTARY CLUB OF MALDON Registered charity number 1026101

Trustees’ Report for the year ended 30th June 2025

The trustees who served during the year ended 30[th] June 2025 were:

A. Smith, J. Smith, J. Williams and B, Farrington

The trustees at the date this report is filed are:

A. Smith, J. Smith, J. Williams and B. Farrington

The Club’s address for correspondence is 1 Beeches Road, Heybridge, Maldon, Essex CM9 4SL.

The charity was formed by a trust deed in 1993.The club operates trust bank accounts.

Normally, the trustees each year are the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. However, this year, Mr. A. Smith agreed to remain as a trustee.

The purpose of the trust fund is to provide donations for charitable purposes and to enable local community projects. The trustees’ objectives are to raise and donate as much money as possible whilst maintaining suitable reserves to enable it to continue to operate its annual fireworks evening and other events together with providing, and being involved in, community service events. The trustees believe that they have complied with their duty to provide public benefit during the year.

We held a very successful annual firework display. The purpose of this display is to provide safe, enjoyable entertainment for the community at reasonable cost. This year we made a surplus. Also, we sold chestnuts at the Light Up Maldon evening and made our Santa Sleigh and Christmas High Street collections. Our intention is to donate most of the money raised by our activities to charities and charitable causes serving our community since local people provided that money.

However, our activities are not restricted to fund raising. During the year, we helped man road closures on Remembrance Sunday and for the Walk of Witness on Good Friday. In addition we took an entertainer into a local care home and a supported housing complex. Also, we held a “know your blood pressure” morning in the Moot Hall at Maldon’s High Street providing free blood pressure checks for anyone interested. Finally, we are very grateful that Santa took time out of his very busy schedule to present gifts, provided by the Rotary Club, to hundreds of local small children.

In April 2025, the Club’s members agreed to use its major project fund to finance the purchase of a second hand minibus for the Plume Academy, the local secondary school. It took a while for the Academy to find a suitable vehicle and make it ready for use, so a cheque was handed over after the year end.

We maintain a reserve of £35,000 towards the cost of future firework displays. It is necessary to hold a reserve of this size as we may lose money if the weather is inclement on the night and it is impossible to change the date at short notice. Therefore, the reserve ensures that we can continue to provide firework displays even after a loss in a previous year.

Trustees’ Report for the year ended 30th June 2025

(continued)

The Club donated £22.487 during the year to 24 charities and charitable causes. Most of the donations were to local charities and charitable causes. A further £10,750 has been donated since the year end excluding the donation for the Plume Academy’s minibus.

The balance carried forward on the Trust Fund at 30[th] June 2025 was £101,910 which included the £35,000 held as a reserve for the fireworks event and £20,000 in the major project fund. The other reserve held at 30[th] June 2025 was £2,000 for the Colin Bingham reserve. The Colin Bingham reserve, named after a former President of the Club, is a rapid response fund for making donations in respect of worldwide natural disasters.

The trustees would like to thank all the club’s members, the “Friends of Maldon Rotary Club” and other friends and family for their support and involvement in our activities during year.

Finally, we would like to thank the members of the public for their generous donations and continued support during the year.

For and on behalf of the Trustees
