for the year ended 31 March 2025

The trustees who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities:Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Statndard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland(FRS 102) (effective January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The main objective of the charity is to fund the activities of the Beacon Centre which provides palliative care to the community from its site in Guildford.

The Trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to public benefit guidace published by the charity commission.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

In the financial year 2024/25 the charity was able to raise £30,482 (2024:£62,787) for the Beacon Specialist Paliative Care Service. The charity had 6 "Golden Bond" London Marathon runners in the 2024 event.

These are managed for the Friends by Phyllis Tuckwell Memorial Hospice, which runs the Beacon Centre.

The sum raised in 2024/25 included £27,468 (2023: £22,128) in respect of a share of Marathon sponsership monies.

The charity's expenditure totalled £30,168 (2024:£ 264,368). £27,468 (2024:£262,388 ) was used to directly support the Beacon. This helped fund some day activities for patients at the Beacon Centre.

£2,700 (2024: £1,980) was spent to raise funds through the London Marthon.

The results for the year are as set out in the annexed Statement of Financial Activities.

FUTURE PLANS

In the future the charity plans to continue to carry out its current objectives and activities.

Governing Document

The charity is controlled by its Memorandum & Articles of Association and constitutes a company limited by guarantee, as defined by the Compaies Act 1985.

1 ACOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charitble company, which is a public benefit under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS102) 'Accounting and reporting by Charities : Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2019), Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reprting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and The Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once th Charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure. It is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all costs related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Resticted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particularrestricted purposes.
