CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

This has been a challenging time for the charity, not least with the pandemic, which has hit us hard financially. We have, however, maintained our central tasks of rescuing and rehoming and in that respect we have had a successful 2020. The down side is that our income has been significantly impaired by the pandemic and called upon our reserves to meet the shortfall. Our vet’s bills remain one of our biggest outgoings. Last year the charity needed to replace three old kennels erecting 3 new ones in their place, this was vital but it was another financial hit. We still are self-sufficient in food, any surplus is donated to our local food banks, Salvation Army, church groups etc. to help people feed their pets. The money we save on not buying food free’s up funds and used to keep our low cost spaying and neutering scheme going, this scheme is available for people on low income. Our Alternative Project, supporting people with pets in times of crisis continues, such as emergency hospital admissions, evictions, and women’s refuge etc.

Although the pandemic was challenging for us we now face another challenge the site we have occupied for the last 25yrs is being sold and we are having to move. The charity have identified another site which we are hoping to buy. We have launched a Go Fund Me page to help with the cost and seems to be going well. It is vital we are successful in this new adventure to preserve the charity.

Our updated website is proving to be an excellent platform for the charity as does our facebook page.

We continue to be supported by the local community and several businesses have made donations of food and offers of help. We were chosen by our local Pets at Home store as their charity of the year for the 3[rd] year running and remain charity of the year with our local Julies pet store for the 2[nd] year running. The benefits from being charity of the year gives us an opportunity to fundraise and to further the name of NASSL.

Our outdoor fundraising will start again as soon as permitted.

Our aim is to build on the excellent service we deliver in rescuing and rehoming unwanted and abandoned animals and to continue in the spirit the charity was set up to do, and continue to build on our on our good name.
