Ardingly Old Jeshwang Association
Annual Report : July 2024 — June 2025
----- End of picture text -----
The Trustees are pleased to present their report for the year ended 30" June, 2025
Ardingly Old Jeshwang Health Centre is a community-based health facility located in Old Jeshwang Village in the Kanifing Municipality, The Gambia. AOJA was formed in 1993. Its aim is to provide affordable healthcare for the community of Old Jeshwang and its surrounds. To this end, in 2000, we, assisted by a National Lotteries grant, financed, designed and built a modern health centre to which we now contribute to the costs of staff salaries and other funds as deemed necessary. Although as yet unable to support it financially, The Gambian government accepts our facility as an integral part of its health care system and it is the permanent home of the Area Public Health Officer, overseeing immunisation and blood donation programmes. It has a well-established local administration responsible for the dayto-day operation of the facility. Following the untimely demise of the original Administrator, a new administration was appointed in August, 2021, ably led by Cherno Yaddeh. The Charity Registration No. is 1024627 and is governed by its constitution dated July, 1993 as amended Nov, 2006. The registered office is : 35, College Road, Ardingly, HAYWARDS HEATH, West Sussex RH17 6TU. Its Officers are :
Chairman — Mr. Lynn Wilson
Vice Chairman/Secretary — Mr. Peter Tomlin The Trustees are Lynn Wilson, Ken Monk and David Ogilvie

This year, as a direct result of the generous support of our regular sponsors, in addition to several large one-off donations, we have been able to commence work on the much-needed extension to the Clinic which, in addition to adding an second Delivery Suite, will also refurbish the original Suite. Once competitive tenders were received, a contract was signed with a local builder with work on site commencing almost immediately. Completion is expected in the latter part of 2025.
At the time of this writing, we are sourcing, arranging purchasing and, where necessary, shipping up-to-date equipment and furnishings so that both Suites will offer the best possible service outcomes in the near future. Our cash reserves have increased over the period and therefore we are in discussion with General Administrator, Cherno Yaddeh and his team at
the Clinic to ascertain their immediate, medium and longer term additional needs so that we may provide the right level of funds at the right time. This includes an extension and further equipping of the Path. Lab. and updating the Dentistry Unit.
Activities: A major development has been an initiative to provide a Community Outreach Clinic, the first of which was held at the local school.
The Outreach Clinic ran from 9.00am until 5.00pm with those attending registered and basic demographic information collected after which blood pressure and blood sugar levels were measured. On hand were Clinic staff, Doctors, nurses and pharmacists including laboratory technicians with appropriate medical testing equipment, together with IT support to ensure data was efficiently collated.
The primary objectives of this initiative were to: - detect early signs of diabetes and hypertension - provide necessary medications - offer follow-up care at the Clinic The Outreach Clinic served as a way to give back to the residents of Old Jeshwang. At the first of these Outreach Clinics a total of 167 patients were seen, 51 male and 116 female with ages ranging from 2 to 87 years old. Cherno Yaddeh's comments, contained in his Situation Report after the first event , are worth quoting here: “The outreach programme has not only provided vital health services but has also raised awareness, empowered individuals and strengthened community engagement. By detecting chronic conditions early, providing access to medications and offering follow-up care, we have taken proactive steps toward improving health outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for our residents” Risk Assessment The Trustees of AOJA have identified and are aware of potential risks to which the charity might be exposed and will keep these under constant review to establish procedures to mitigate them.
