On July 29th August 2024, Southport 8xp8riènc8d thè traglc evènts DI a knKe attack al the Hart Stre81 danca class, whlch
culminated In thè loss ol Irf• of Alitè, Bibi. and Elsiè with others Sèriously injLired and traurnatised On Jlily 30th, rlols and
isord8r brok8 Out in th8 town and larg8t8d al Soulhport Mosqu8 wlth similar 8vents occuiring in towns and citl8s across th8
UK.
Southport Sefton Council established 3 'Recovery Cell, to lead the local response to the two separate incidents in
Soulhport with Sgfton CVS bging a kfry strategic partner. CVS inpulled lo the initial Ihemali¢s and is represgnled on
the lour pillar Ihemalics going forward.
Sefton CVS established the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector, IVCFSI. Recovery Group to harness the local
experlenco and oxpertl80 lo pul In plac8 a VCFS Recovary plan. Over 35 dlfferenl Soulhport VCF groups and
organiSa￿.0ns arg represented on the group which continues lo meet.
CVS commenced a comprehensive 'listening exercise. with the volLnlary. comrnunity and laith sector during Ihe
months ol August and 88pigmber 2024 10 gain insight into the irnm&cli8te, medium, 8nrl long-tarm n8•d8 or Ine
community.
Coordinated a Small Grants Fund with £15,OCM) from Sefton Counol lo rneet locol needs in the immediate and
medium-18rm. To dale over 45 different community, family. youth. and inlerfailh community aclivili8s. 11 also included
the commissioning ol training on building security and safely and traurna inlormed practice lor frontline VCF staff and
volunteers.
Worktrd elos&ly with the Community Foundation lor Lancasbire and Merg8y$id& as Ih&y ￿OrdInated the public appgal
'Soulhport Slronger Together Appeal, The Main priorities lor the allocation ol the funds are lor directly impacled
individuals and families experiencing bereavement, serious injury, irnmedi8le h8rdship. and psychologi¢81 injury and
the firsi grant¥ were awarded in Ihg eady days ol the funds being established. This still rernains the rvain priorty loi
the fund.
11 schools were awarded grants with an association with those imrnedialply impacted by the Iragedy. An element of
th8 fund. In accordance wilh thè prlortlies. crltaiia and approval ol tho appgal, could ba used to support SouthFOrt
VCFS ag8nci85, or those that d8liv8r services in SouthFOrt, The Foundation supported 8ight anchor SouthtK)rt
