Chair report for AGM 2021/2022

24th January 2023

Hello, I would like to thank everyone for attending this evening for our 2021/ 2022 Annual General Meeting, The AGM.

My name is Lisa Turner, I am the Chair of L/A and I have been Chair now for over a year. I have had one daughter go through L/A and have another daughter presently attending the preschool. Little Acorns is a registered charity and is run by an elected group of parents/local volunteers who dedicate their time, for free to help fundraise and support the staff.

We are always looking for new members to join our wonderful committee and volunteer their time to support the Preschool, in whatever capacity this may be. So, I appreciate you all attending this evening. This year we have changed the date slightly of our AGM, from September to January going forward the AGM will be in January each year.

This is to mainly to accommodate our accounts which end August 31[st] , giving us enough time to process them and have the accountant approve them in time for the AGM.

The plan for next September / October (which is the beginning of the preschool year) is for the committee to focus on our new parents as well as our existing parents, informing them of what we do and to encourage them to join the committee in plenty of time before the next annual general meeting.

We started September in good stead after saying farewell to 12 of our little squirrels as they headed off on their new adventure of primary school. Our numbers increased and the preschool has managed to maintain a healthy income, Katie our admin manager did an amazing job at recalculating our fundings and changing the system to real time calculations, which has helped us see exactly where we are financially on a term-to-term basis.

Crafty Christmas was held in the scout hall and all thou we couldn’t use the village hall both staff and committee members pulled together, and we had a great fundraiser.

Jen did a fantastic job with the Preschools photo shoot, I have seen 1[st] hand how much work and effort Jen puts in to getting the best out of our children and creating amazing photos, the profits from which, goes back to the children to buy supplies and equipment for the children to use.

The beginning of 2022 was a busy time for us all.

Terri Passed her Level 2 with the highest distinction, making us all extremely proud. We welcomed Natasha who has joined the staff.

But said a sad farewell to Jackie Apps who after over 20 years of working at LA retired as manager.

Jenny Dickson has taken over the role as General Manager from Jackie, Jenny has a magnitude of knowledge and experience, we are very lucky to have her. Lisa Sheeley has taken over Jenny’s role as Deputy manager, Both Jenny and Lisa had big shoes to fill and have both been giving it their all and doing an excellent job.

We briefly welcomed Simone Farren to the staff, who stepped down after the birth of her daughter and has since become the preschool Treasurer. Which means we said a sad farewell to Ruth Taylor.

The staff and children helped celebrate the Queens Jubilee in a true royal fashion fun was had by all.

Little acorns then went through a transformation, Jenny and Katie worked endlessly, researching, and modifying the preschools Policies to bring them up to date. We changed the way we record our accounts and revising our systems and we changed the colour of the uniform for the staff from green to blue,

We purchased our CCTV Cameras for the outside area in preparation for our new expansion of the playground and building of our new classroom /learning area which should take place this year.

Little acorns has gone from strength to strength, with no reduction of staff hours and our child numbers increasing throughout the year. None of this would have been possible without our incredible, staff who work extremely hard to provide the children with a fun, safe and educational environment every day. I personally appreciate you as a parent and for everything I see 1[st] hand being the chair within the preschool.

Little acorns preschool wouldn't be the place it is without all of you.

Secondly, thank you to the committee for 2021-22. Thank you for your help both at meetings, in advice and guidance, through emails and at fundraising events.

I would especially like to thank Liz Armitage who has continued to work as our bookkeeper and payroll officer but has also given me so much support and advice in many other areas concerning little acorns.

Treasurer report for AGM

24th January 2023

For the financial period ending august 2022 we had £19,797.77 in our bank account including petty cash and £12,027.21 In our savings account.

This year we made £1,132,14 in fundraising and received £381.52 in donations. A big amount of our fundraising from this year went towards funding Jackie’s farewell party.

This is quite a drop from previous years of fundraising, I believe getting some new committee members on board and some new fundraising ideas would help raise more funds for preschool.

The trustees are pleased to present their report for the year ended 31[ST] December 2022 for the charity, Jesus Family Chapel Intl with charity number 1171926.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The Charity governing document is a CIO – Foundation Constitution registered 7[TH] March 2017. The Charity is governed by a board on which the trustees are represented. It meets regularly to review, plan activities and monitor the financial position.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The Objects of the organisation are first to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the statement of beliefs for the benefit in the United Kingdom and in such other parts of the world as the trustees may think fit from time to time. The trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit before deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

ACHIEVMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The Organisation held successful meetings through the year in which individuals were equipped and educated on

the principles and doctrines of the Christian faith. The organisation held several conferences during the year in which individuals came from all around the community to attend. This has produced good results in reaching and helping members of the community. The organisation also airs its sermons on the Faith Christian television that airs all over the country

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The income of the charity is above £14,057.51 Though this is a small amount for the year the costs have been well managed over this period. The organisation is still in a good position to manage its costs. The main cost of the organisation was paying for the rent of its building that it uses for worship services and church office rent as well as purchase food items and blanket for rough sleepers and homeless in its environment

PLANS FOR THE FUTURE

The church intends to continue to host its regular television programmes on Faith TV. The intended reappointment of our present independent examiner at the upcoming trustee meeting is expected to support the financial operations by making it more effective.

RESERVE POLICY

It is the policy of the Charity to maintain unrestricted funds, which are the reserves of the charity at about 3 months of unrestricted expenditure .This provides sufficient funds to cover any emergency expenditures that may arise from time to time. The charity will seek to maintain this level throughout the year.

RISK MANAGEMENT

The charity have assessed all the major risks to which the charity is exposed to, in particular those related to operations and finances of the charity, and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposure to major risks.

TRUSTEE RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the Charities Act 2011,the trustees are required to prepare a statement of accounts for each accounting year which gives a true and fair view of the state of the church. They are required to:

  1. Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently.

  2. Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.

  3. State whether the applicable accounting standards have been followed.

  4. Prepare financial statements on an ongoing basis.

They are responsible for keeping proper records which disclose with reasonable accuracy the finances of the

church at any time and to ensure that such accounts comply with the Charities Act 2011.They also have a responsibility to safeguard the assets of the church and to take reasonable steps to detect fraud or other irregularities.

ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of Accounting

These accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis with all revenue and expenses shown on a cash basis. Non-monetary assets are shown at estimates of the value at the end of the year.

Funds

The CIO has a general unrestricted fund that receives voluntary donations from attendants at the services.

The CIO has no outstanding guarantees to third parties no any debts secured on the assets of the CIO

Public Benefit

The charity acknowledges its requirement to demonstrate clearly that it must have charitable purposes or aims that are for public benefit.Details of how this is achieved are provided in the Trustees report. The trustees confirm that they have paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit before deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

Depreciation

Depreciation is calculated at 20 % reducing balance method.
