Chair’s Report October 2024
As we embark upon and eventful year, extend a warm PTA our Tranmere
another exciting we would like to welcome back to families old and
new. With a successful Movie Night already ‘under our belt’ and Christmas cards already designed, we are off to a great start and have a packed fundraising calendar ready for this term.
It has been an incredibly successful fundraising year, which is remarkable given the current climate and the financial strain on many families. We thank you all wholeheartedly for your support. As the school’s budget becomes increasingly stretched we sincerely hope that we achieve the delicate balance of juggling what the school needs whilst being mindful of family finances. We have traditionally used PTA funds for enhancements that enrich school life but we are increasingly providing ‘necessities’, so your donations are all the more important.
Aside from the financial support offered as a PTA, we are all about the ‘fun stuff’. It is really important to us as a PTA, to support events that bring the school community together like the Christmas fair and elf night. We love seeing the children’s excitement build for a cake bake, movie night or disco. We are often in the privileged position of being in school during their working day and are always impressed by the children’s impeccable manners and enthusiasm while they take part in events. They all love helping and we are never short of volunteers. It is heartwarming to see them so invested in making a difference in their school.
On reflection, we certainly packed a lot in over the last year! We hosted our first bingo night, wreath making and elf night, along with all of the Tranmere Favourites. The new events were a great success and they will be making an appearance in our fundraising diary over the coming years. We are always open to new ideas and are delighted to be hosting two new Christmas events, a Christmas cake decorating workshop and a family pottery painting evening.
In true Team Tranmere spirit, the PTA is an absolute team effort. There are so many people that keep the PTA wheels turning. None of our events would be possible without the teachers and the goodwill of the whole school community.
Everyone gives so freely of their time and money and whenever we shout out for help or goodies, you amaze us with your support. We have a fabulous professional new website this year, all generously created for us at no expense. This has massively streamlined our processes and we are very grateful for the time and commitment this took to create and maintain. Our PTA lite group remains a great source of volunteer support and we are grateful for everyone who steps up to help and support us.
As always we would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mrs Gibson who is literally the “glue” that holds the PTA and school together. She generously gives her time and energy to ensure that all events are not only successful but enjoyable and well organised. Not only that, but she meticulously researches and coordinates our PTA purchases to ensure that all donations are spent wisely for maximum benefit to our school.
One of our great PTA success stories this year has been the expansion of our core PTA team. Always ‘small and mighty’ we are now slightly larger and just as mighty! We have been joined by the most amazingly creative, organised and motivated group of people who have quite literally ‘hit the ground running’. We are so grateful for their fresh ideas and unwavering enthusiasm and totally applaud the way they have just thrown themselves into the wonderful craziness of PTA life ! We will fully support them as they take on their new roles, but I am in no doubt that the PTA will be in very ‘safe hands’.
This year will mark the last for our fabulous secretary Jo Hawkins as her daughter moves closer to her High School journey to join her older sister. Jo and her family will all be greatly missed, and we wholeheartedly thank her for the fun, friendship, and commitment that she has brought to school over the years.
This will be my last report as chair, so a chance to briefly reflect on my own experiences. From a personal perspective, the PTA has gifted me incredible friendships that will extend well beyond my children’s primary school years. As a family, our PTA journey has enriched our primary school experience, teaching us all some invaluable life lessons about generosity, giving and doing. It will come as no surprise that my girls are always first in the line to help with any event and are ‘all over a tombola’ and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
I would also like to sincerely thank my own personal PTA support crew! My dearest friends and family who became PTA by default! Whilst you won’t see their names anywhere on committees, agendas or PTA minutes, you will have
seen them handcrafting a whole Christmas grotto, delivering gifts to vulnerable kids, driving 1000 jars around and a million other things....
I often recall from my early PTA years, some very wise words of my PTA ‘elders’ (aside from “This isn’t going to be Disneyland no matter how much bunting you put up “ !!!!). Our unofficial motto at the time and my own PTA mantra has always been “Always try to leave things a little better than you found them...” I certainly hope we have.
Warmest wishes
Tranmere Park PTA Chair Sheryl McCaul
