Little Dragons Preschool is registered with Ofsted, setting no. EY273825/ registration no. RP904567. Little Dragons Preschool is a member of the Early Years Alliance. The preschool has child protection policies in place which includes regular training for all staff, safer recruitment training for management, enhanced DBS checks for all new staff and committee members and thereafter, said members are registered with the Update Service providing further annual checks.
The preschool is partnered with St Georges Primary school whom it rents the property and associated facilities in which provides Early Year education.
Little Dragons Preschool is a small, friendly charity, non for profit preschool which has 36 children on the books by the end of the year. A healthy waiting list for the following school year is also in place. The preschool provides a varied, interesting and informative Early Years education and childcare for children aged between 2 years and 4 years from Portland and surrounding area. The setting is open term time only, providing a Monday-Friday service from 9am to 3pm.
The preschool’s last Ofsted inspection was in May 2022 and was rated Good with Outstanding in attitudes and behaviour.
The links and relationships between our preschool, other preschools and other primary schools on the island has strengthened with regards to communication and sharing of information and we currently enjoy a friendly and professional partnership. We run a transition group with the primary schools in the summer term with the purpose of preparing the children for school transition. Other links to the schools include annual sports day, Easter bonnet parade and annual Teddy Bear’s picnic.
We welcome all children within the age range, regardless of personal circumstance, gender, faith, cultural background and lingual ability. We work with other agencies such as SALT and Portage etc, to give all children the best start in life.
Parents, staff and committee members have played a vital part in fundraising events this year, including staff climbing Mount Snowdon, an Easter egg hunt, sponsored Elf Run, sponsored colour run and clothes donation fundraising. The money is greatly accepted enabling the
preschool to top up it’s resources, provide Cultural Capital, or go towards a more substantial ‘wish list’ including a new enclosed canopy.
The preschool employs 8 members of staff. We have 6 committee members.
Hot meals are optional at the setting at a cost of £3.00. They consist of a health, balanced main meal such as jacket potatoes, pasta and fish dishes. A piece of fruit and a dessert are also included in the lunch price. The manager is the main cook and completed an advanced food hygiene course. The hot meals have proven popular with both children and parents over the past few years and will continue as a non-profit making lunch time option. Children who wish to bring a healthy lunch box from home are welcome too.
Regular staff training has taken place through the year as required.
