We act with care, respect, integrity, cooperation, exploring our own and others’ beliefs.
The Trustees, and the leaders of the section (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts) act to ensure that there are sufficient fundraising to maintain and develop sufficient resource to achieve the activities for young people. The group has it’s own building and garage, which provides good space for the activities but has also allowed the group to generate income towards the running costs. The group have equipment such as camping equipment and those required for the more specialized activities. These include, canoeing, sailing, rock climbing, pioneering, archery and shooting. The group has 2 minibuses which allows for each section e.g. cubs, to all go out as a group, spontaneously to undertake activities, such as canoeing on a nice evening.
The group believe strongly that they are part of the community, and so are a lead organisation in such things as Remembrance Sunday. The group believe that one of the benefits to the community is that they are encouraging young people to be good citizens and future leaders within the scouting movement but also in other activities within the community.
The group are in a good financial position at the moment, but the annual running costs are significant, with increasing difficulties faced by all charities in recent times, they are mindful that sufficient funds be available to maintain the groups viability and sustainability. The group has been fortunate and through the endeavours of its committee and leaders, to receive grants to support the functioning of the group. The committee and Trustees take a proactive approach to the running of the group, a large part of that is running 2 minibuses, and there is a need to replace them periodically. However, the need to garage these minibuses, which now have to be of sufficient height to stand up in, means that
the garage is no longer high enough and therefore will need further extensive building work to raise the roof. The committee have begun to consider how that goal will be achieved and money set aside for this. It is a substantial undertaking as each minibus is over 10 years old and replacement costs will be in the region of £20k each. The cost of lifting the roof is estimated to be about £25k.
