After a difficult and unsettling start to the year Scouting emerged from the covid restrictions, managed by the Scouts Association. Our Scout Leaders and Volunteers put in a marvellous effort and kept Scouting in this District going by using virtual meetings during the lockdowns and when restrictions allowed, outdoor activities. As I took over as Chair of the FDSC at last year’s AGM in July 2021, it was a pleasure and somewhat of a relief, to see the return of camping on our District campsite, Garner’s Field.

The Scout Shop re-opened again in September 2021 with a rush of uniform purchases from our young people who joined and had moved through during covid. Our manager, Roy did a terrific job keeping on top of re-ordering and tracking the shortages due to the supply issues associated with the pandemic. Badge secretary, Denise kept the request for badges flowing throughout. Thanks also go to those on the rota which keep the shop open for business.

The facilities at the campsite, Garner’s Field, have seen a new archery range designed and built, the climbing tower overhauled and the shooting shelter upgraded. This has been achieved by Ken’s team of volunteers, the Monday Crew, with limited outside assistance, hence keeping our costs down. Once again, it’s great to see plenty of bookings being made for the campsite which includes DofE expeditions.

The year-end accounts show that our finances are sound so we can move forward in a positive way to support our Scouts Groups in our District in this coming year.

The above account and accompanying statement of assets and liabilities were approved by the Trustees
