Income was higher in 2022 compared to 2021. We received several legacies in the last year which boosted our income. Donations were slightly down compared to 2021 as was cat donations. Our annual open day made a £1k loss compared to the previous year, however this could have been due to the extreme weather temperatures we experienced over the summer months. Bankers Orders were reduced compared to the previous year and investment income on the Quilter portfolio had made a loss over the course of 12 months. Shop takings were higher in 2022 compared to 2021. We held various fundraising events throughout the year which included a quiz night, open day and stalls at local events etc.
Expenditure in 2022 was £5k higher for the charity compared to 2021. Cost of maintenance for the site was similar compared to the year prior. Vet fees for our larger animals doubled in 2022 but cat fees expenditure was similar to 2021. Professional fees were also higher in the year end. Animal feed expenditure was similar when comparing each year. Shop expenditure was slightly higher in the last year compared to 2021.
In summary, our income would be much lower if we had not received several legacies and would have been making a significant loss if it was not for this. The cost of living crisis has impacted us as a charity due to rising costs of utility bills and the cost of consumables, veterinary bills and animal feeds being much higher. Going forward, donations from the public and fundraising will be more important than ever before due to these rising costs.
