## **Landulph Under Fives Trustees Annual Report (Charity Registration no. 1019722) for the period from 1st September 2024 to 31st August 2025**

Trustees: Jessica Howells, Melissa Kellow & Jessica Dyer; and committee member Serena Stevens. 

Committee Structure: There is a chairperson, secretary, treasurer and committee member. 

Management: The committee share the day-to-day management and there are half - termly committee meetings to review performance. Trustees are commonly recruited from the pool of preschool attending children’s parents and sometimes volunteers come forward from the wider village community. Our committee is currently made up of 100% parents of children attending Landulph Under Fives. 

## **Objectives & Activities** 

Landulph Under Fives Preschool is a friendly and enthusiastic group, aiming to provide all our children with a secure and motivating environment in which they can develop socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.  A friendly place to grow, to think, to learn, to play and to make friends. 

The 2024/2025 year commenced with eight children on the register, increasing to twelve by the year end. This growth reflects, in part, an increasing number of new families choosing Landulph Under Fives for its smaller, more nurturing environment. 

Throughout the year, we have continued to organise fundraising events, generating over £2,000. However, the ongoing cost-of-living pressures have impacted attendance, which in turn affected the overall funds raised. 

Grant funding awarded in the previous year was allocated to the purchase of new bikes, sports equipment  and outdoor water trays, all of which have been enjoyed by the children. In addition, we have upgraded our teaching resources with the purchase of a new iPad, enhancing the technology available for educational activities and classroom support. 

Following the departure of a staff member in July 2024, we continued to advertise the position and conduct interviews; unfortunately, there was a high rate of non-attendance among candidates and no suitable candidates were identified. Our current staff members, Claire & Nicola, were willing to continue operating the preschool with the help from ad hoc staff member Deborah for the remainder of the academic year. 

Jess H, Jess D, and Missy confirmed their continued service in their respective Officer roles and as Trustees of the charity. 

Serena formally resigned from the committee at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in July 2025. All at Landulph Under Fives extend their thanks to Serena for her contribution to our fundraising events. Following this, we were pleased to welcome Georgia, Jen, and Sarah 



to the committee, and the Trustees look forward to their contribution in the forthcoming year. 

This year, our baby and toddler group, Landulph Stay and Play, was delivered by a dedicated team of volunteers and continued to achieve a strong and consistent weekly attendance. The group has remained financially sustainable, covering its operating costs, and has also generated encouraging interest from parents in progressing to the preschool provision. 

Pre-school has been running since 1976 and we continue working hard to keep this a community led asset. Maintaining this status in the climate of increasing legislation gets more difficult each year and recruiting new committee members is always challenging as parents do not always have the spare time available to commit to volunteering when they work long hours and have children to look after. 

## **Achievements & Performance** 

During the 2024/25 year, the preschool operated five days a week, with additional wraparound care offered on two afternoons weekly. Children’s attendance remained strong across all sessions. 

The quality of activities has been enhanced by the expertise within the staffing team, with the leader maintaining a clear focus on preparing children for school. Staff planned a varied programme of indoor and outdoor activities, and the children consistently appeared happy, engaged, and eager to begin their preschool day. 

Ofsted conducted an inspection on 27th September 2024, awarding the setting a grade of **Good** across all areas. The report highlighted that “Children eagerly enter this welcoming pre-school, where staff greet them warmly” and that “Staff plan their curriculum well to ensure that children make progress.” We are extremely proud of the ongoing development and improvement of the preschool, made possible by the dedication and commitment of our staff members. 

The preschool has continued to fulfil its aim of providing a vibrant and nurturing environment where children are cared for and supported in preparing for their transition to school. It continues to attract children from beyond the village, reflecting its good reputation and appeal to families in the wider community. 

## **Financial Review** 

Following the transition of a significant number of children to primary school, preschool attendance has been lower this year, leading to a reduction in income from fees and funding. Combined with limited fundraising opportunities, this has resulted in a reported loss of £8,700. It should be noted, however, that £3,218 of funding for the summer term 



was received in August and is not included in this year’s accounts, meaning the adjusted net loss is approximately £5,500. 

We are proud to have successfully navigated the year, recognising that many small preschools nationwide have faced greater challenges. We are grateful for the support of our local community and the continued efforts of Karen Ball, Head of Landulph School, to relocate the preschool to Landulph School under the umbrella of Smart Multi Academy Trust. This represents a significant step towards securing the long-term future of the preschool in Landulph.

As the charity Trustees of the Trust, you are responslble for the preparatlon of the accounts In
accordance with the requirements of the Charities Art 20111.the ACVI.
I report in respect of my examination of the Trusvs accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011
