The policies of the charity aro detemiined by the Board of Trnslaés and ensure day to day decisions are
consistent with these policies and associated procedurès. Policies and procedures have been reviewod and
revised, with new policies agreed where idenlified. Limits of expenditure by delegated authority are dear and the
Board is involvèd in making spendlng dedslons. Where requests for expenditure require clinical and technical
advice, these are provided by the Hospice Clinical Management Team.
Fundraising Updatg
Members of the Board, ils slaff, and the community served by St Benadict's Hosplce continued to work hard to
rais8 fijnds to support the Charity. The membèrs of the fundraising team organise events, and also support
members of the local community in raising funds in the name of loved fatnily members and friends, who may
have received the excellent care offered by the Hospic6. Th&re are other community organlsations such as darts
clubs, 0th8r sporting associations who have been longstanding supporters of the Hosplce, and continue lo raise
much w8lcom8d funds, We are grateful to all ofthese members ofthe communities we serve for their efforts.
The ¢harity's primary source of income is voluntary money raised from tha general public, local businesses and
charitable trusts and foundations.
Eff6Ctiv& fundraising enables fhe Hospice to ensure thal patients receive the best possible care. not confined to
cllni¢al care, but also their comfort in being an Inpatient at Sl Benedict's. The Hospice has been operating for
over 15 years slnce its opening in Ryhope. Many things have changed during that timè both in the manner iri
which the NHS organises services across the region and tha way whlch those se￿I￿S are delivered "on the
ground." W& have sought to ensure our servicès meet modem standards, Including a thorough review of facilities
in the inpatient ward and day seTvices. This has included provision of new beds for patients and their families if
they wish to stay at the Hospice, installation of smart te18visions in each of the rooms so that patients can watch
Sky TV servicos etc., and more modern eating arrangements for individuals attending Day Services through the
purchas& of new dining table and chairs and associaled furniture.
The transport leam consisting mainly of volunteers. provides an invaluable service to individuals attending eilher
the day provision as well as the lymphoedema service or other clinics, and Ihey ensur8 that individuals are
picked up promptly from thelr home to attend appointments, and relurned home as soon as possible afte￿ards,
The inveslment in the new purpose buitt mini bus which we aro scheduled lo take delivery of in May 2025 will
SUPPOrt the team in en8bling us to continue to meat the needs of our patients.
Volunteers are at the core of delEvery. whether that be the Iransport team, volunteers working in the Hospice
Bistro or dellvering activities such as raffles and other activities in lh8 communlly, or indeed the Trustees
themselves. We are always keen to welcome new Trustees, SO that we can expand our team and bring the
broadest Possible set of skills to oversee the operations of the charity.
The charity is registered with the Fundralsing Regulator and all our fundraising activities comply with their Code
of Fundraislng Practice. The organisation has a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) database in place
Vhich ensur8s monitoring and support activities of people fundraising for us. The CRM also ensures accurate
financial record keeping and that we comply wilh the General Data Protection Regulation {GDPR) which is
regulat8d by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
Volunteers who represent and raise fvnds for Iho charity on a regular basis are provided with appropriate training
and support to ensure they maintain our fundraising standards. This includes sharing guidolines from the Code of
Fundraising Practice, the Charity Governance Cod&, regular meetings and overslght from the fundraising team.
The charity is committed to supporting everyone who fundraises for the charity and understand that some people
may be classed as vulnerable due to their personal circutnstances or the circumstances of thelr loved ones. The
charity ensures all of our stsff are trained and able to recognise someone who may be vulnerable and work
closely with the Hospic& dinieal team to ensure the Indlvidual gets the most appropriate support.
The charfty remains committed to growing and nurturing the support we receivo from people who commit lo

Investmenl
Pollcy
Barclays Private Bank & Wealth Management advise the Trustees in respect of its investments. The charity is a
long term investor and seeks to obtain a reasonable investment return. In placing funds the level of slock market
volatility and the continuing uncertainty regarding world &conomi¢ prospects have been taken into account and
balanced against an environment of low returns on cash funds, The investment brief is broadly defined but
ethical ¢rileria prevent investment in companles that manufacture arms, alcohol or tobacco. The Trustees also
invests 0th8r lunds via a platfom) providing a base for cash savings. The Tmstees ensure that such Snvestmenls
are at levels which obtain FSCS protection.
Risk Managemant
The Trustees have a regularly reviewed Risk Regi81er in place to assess the major risks to which the charity is
exposed, and are satisfied that systems are in pla¢e to mitigate exposure to the major risks. The Trustees have
overall responsibility for th8 System of inlemal control for the charity. such a system, however, can provide only a
re8sonable. but not absollrte assurance against fraud and error. Vvhilsl palliative care services are largely funded
by the NHS and the Foundation Trust, the major risk to which the Charity is exposed is a change in government
or NHS policies which may r8suIt in r@configuralion of setwice provision or reduction of funding to Hospice
services, Poliues and procedures hav& been reviewed and revised in order lo mitlgate risk.
Futuro Pollcy
The charity is lo continue developing its strategy to maxlmiso the funding of Hosplce services Induding c051
