Treasurer’s Report 2021~2022

AGM for 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group Meeting Date – 9th July 2022 Covering the period 1[st] April 2021 – 31[st] March 2022

Community Account

The account started with a balance of £3185.93p and ended the year with a balance of £5180.90p.

We successfully got a grant in March 2022 which has enabled us to buy Ipads, Laptops and Printers for the group. The aim being we will be able to achieve a lot of computer badges within the group. We have also been able to buy new first aid equipment and Lego robots for the group from the money received from the Co-op.

Savings Account

We have opened savings account where we can transfer fund raising money to build up a fund for items. All the leaders get the opportunity to discuss any equipment requests with the ExecuNve team.

We started the year with having £46110.88p in the account and ended with a balance of £52739.51p. This balance includes the balance from the Business Investor Account and addiNonal funding that we were able to obtain during the year.

Scouts

The account started with a balance of £500.00p and ended with a balance of £1399.09p.

Cubs

The account started with a balance of £500.00p and ended with a balance of £655.20p

Beavers

The account started with a balance of £501.08p and ended with a balance of £542.02p.

Squirrels

This is new to the group and only started to operate in September. They don’t have they own bank account and are currently using the main account for they fees and costs.

This is been monitored as with all secNons to ensure they spend the right amount of funds that they have available.

Feedback

I would like to thank SecNon Treasurers for their conNnued support.

We have to be aware Hall Income and SubscripNons have started to increase again now covid restricNons have been removed.

Costs are higher this year due to us been able to return to the building.

We have also had the building valued this year which resulted us having to increase the cover we had in place. This has resulted in the increase from £420,000.00p to £750,000.00p however for insurance purposes it is recommended that the building is covered for £1000,962.00p.

We were able to complete the Beer FesNval fundraiser this year which was very popular.

Key this year is to get a depreciaNon value policy for equipment within the group.

I am happy with Nicolas’ review of the accounts and would like to thank her again for her support.

Chairpersons Report 2021~2022

The primary focus for any executive group is to provide a support structure for the Scout Group in the forms of funding etc. so the leaders could focus on providing the wide range of activities and 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges is no different. The group continues to provide a wide range of activities and opportunities to nearly 100 young people now we have the new Squirrels section.

This year there has been many developments at HQ.

Maintenance Work at HQ

Jonathan and Jason have spent more time working on the building and grounds of our Headquarters, all their hard work keeps our building safe for all our young people. We have had a maintenance day, thank you for all who helped - in particular Matt C and Will. In one day we managed to cut the hedges, change 2 radiators, paint the meeting room, sort some electrical cabling, gardening, cleaning and many more jobs.

New equipment

We have also purchased some new equipment using some grant money we received, we now have 10 iPad, a laptop, printer, safe (for iPad), 12 new tents and 6 new climbing harnesses. We have also purchased t-shirts for our leaders, so their name if printed on the front and back of the shirt which will hopefully help the young people and parents know who they are talking too.

New Outdoor Area

Lots of work has happened in the new outdoor area, including a shelter, wood storage, planting, pizza oven, fire circle. Well done and thank you to all involved.

Beer Festival

It was great to have the Beer Festival back! It was certainly a good turnout with 450 visitors across the weekend. The mocktails bar was well received. The ales, ciders and gin continue to be popular. The event made a profit.

Closing thoughts

I would like to thank the leaders in every section for all their hard work over the year. I would also like to thank the Executive Members for their time and support to both me, as a new Chair and to the group over the year as it grows and develops, their input has been invaluable. The strength of the group is a tribute to the time and thoughtfulness with which all the leaders and Executive members commit and is why 1st Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group is a much sought-after group.

Group Scout Leaders Report 2021~2022

One area I really want to highlight though is if you talk with any young person about what they think scouNng is about some will say friends, some fire, a lot menNon fun, but that all say camping and 1st Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group does this as well if not be\er than anyone else.

The group is sNll as acNve as ever and the last year has seen many events take place across the secNons, sleepovers here at the Scout HQ or camping in tents at mulNple locaNons around the country. This is only possible by the commitment of leaders all of whom are volunteers they not only make it possible on the night but also in the preparaNon involved and the training they do to prepare them for the role.

It’s great to see so many young people ge^ng so many awards:

Squirrels,

What’s Squirrels?

Squirrels is the newest secNon of the ScouNng family aimed at young people between the ages of 4 and 6, and was launched to much fanfare across the UK on the 9[th] September 2021.

1st Priorslee and St Georges were one of only 3 groups in the county to open a Squirrel Dray. Since the 20th September 22 young people have joined and completed numerous badges and awards. The squirrels do all those scouNng things which we envisage a scout doing but at age appropriate levels.

Since we opened we have completed our All about Adventure award, ExciNng experiments, Get CreaNve, Super Chef and went on a few hikes and by the end of the reported year had completed over 40 badges with a number of young people well on their way to a\aining the ulNmate award in Squirrels - the Chiefs Scout Acorn.

We do have an extensive waiNng list for the secNon, and it is essenNal that more parents come forward and help or we will not be able to grow the secNon and allow young people to experience the joys of Squirrels.

Beaver Report 2021~2022

We have been glad to get out of Lockdown and resume face to face meetings. It has been a challenge because we were starting with a completely new set of children who had only experienced online sessions. It has involved establishing routine and rules but I am pleased to say we are finally getting back to how Beavers used to run. We are continually finding strategies to ensure beavers with special needs are catered for and hence offer a programme suitable for everyone.

Our young leader Ben has now become a leader and is enjoying the new responsibilities the role brings. We have another two leaders Faye and James who have settled in really well so the colony has a very strong leadership team. Over the year we have built up our numbers from 16 beavers to almost 24.

We have had a number of sleepovers in the HQ which the beavers thoroughly enjoyed and they have all completed various activity badges.

We introduced beaver bear and the children are filling in his diary so a successful way of rewarding the children has now been established. The beavers respond well to praise so we will be looking at further reward programmes next year.

Cub Report 2021~2022

Our leadership team is Liz (Baloo), David (Jacala), Angela (Raksha), Vicky (Bagherea), Shane (Kaa), Ethan (Rama), Donna (Kim), Ollie Gra\on (Tha) and Ethan Holland (Ferro). We have 1 new leader join us Alexy (Chil). We have had two Young Leaders Daniel Smith and Dylan Cook helping us out this year.

We had 30 Cubs at the start of the year and 25 at the end of March 2022. The reason for the drop in numbers is that we won’t be having any Cubs move up to Scouts in September, but will receive 4 Beavers, so we kept the numbers low this term to prepare for that.

Since the last AGM the pack have returned to full face to face meeNngs, although we have had a few isolated incidences of Covid, none were sourced back to the pack. We have been working on the following:

Ac:vity Badges : Gardener, Road Safety, Pioneering, Local Knowledge, Environmental ConservaNon, Science, Communicator, Astronomer, Home help, DIY and Chef.

Staged Badges : Emergency Aid, Hikes and Nights Away.

Challenge Badges : Outdoor, Skills, Teamwork and Adventure.

To complete these badges, we have made milking stools, soup, experiments, been li\er picking, used morse code and semaphore, sewn a bu\on, ironed, planted seeds, walked around Ironbridge, played games and lots more!

Ou:ngs and Camps: We managed our first sleepover in November for Remembrance. We had hoped to have a Spring Camp but unfortunately this had to be cancelled.

Senior Six : The cubs we’ve had recently have all been up to date on most of their badge awards, so have not had the need for separate meeNngs.

10 Cubs have achieved their Chief Scout Silver Award.

Scout Report 2021~2022

September the 6[th] saw us kick off ScouNng with 28 members on the books with a focus on ge^ng a number of skills awards completed for the young people which could not be done in prior years but necessary to complete their Chiefs Scout Gold award.

We did an invesNture hike from the Car Park at Asda Donnington to the top of the Monument in Lilleshall (27 Young People(YP) a\ended) and invested a number of new scouts into 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group. On remembrance weekend we did our tradiNonal Remembrance expediNon to Patshill (20 YP) scout campsite and carried out an act of Remembrance service at St Marys Church, Patshull.

The spring term saw us finish up the Climbing and Master at Arms badges with 20 young people compleNng all the required elements of each award. During the spring season we also completed a number of other elements for the various scout awards - What to do in an emergency?, Diet and Sleep, Problem Solving, Smoking Drugs and Alcohol and off course the Beep test at which all the scouts showed improvement over the 5 week period which it was ran.

In total over 75 badges were awarded in the year and many elements of numerous other badges have been completed.

The Trustees (care of the Treasurer) 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group

4 July 2022

Dear Sir or Madam

Please accept the following Independent Examiner Report on the accounts of 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group for the year 01 April 2021 to 31 March 2022.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of the 1[st] Priorslee and St Georges Scout Group dated 04/07/2022.

I report on the accounts of the Group for the year ended 31 March 2022 which comprises of the Statement of Financial Activities (Receipts and Payments) and the Statement of Assets & Liabilities.

This report is made solely to the trustees in accordance with Section 145 of the Charities Act 2011. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the charity’s trustees those matters I am required to state to them in an Independent Examiner’s report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, I do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the charity and the charity’s trustees for my examination work.

Respective responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner

The Group’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. They consider that an audit is not required for this year (under Section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of Independent Examiner's report

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Group and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

Five separate accounts were examined being Group Main, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers and Barclays Business Savings Account. A new Squirrels group does not yet have its own Bank Account, the transactions for this have gone through the Group Main Account. This is the fourth time I have examined these accounts and I have done so on a voluntary basis, a charge has been made as agreed with the treasurer for support and advice regarding the presentation of the accounts.

Independent Examiner's statement

The Accounts have been prepared with care, each Account is reconciled and each transaction has been allocated a number which facilitates tracking. The bank statements are also referenced using the same numbers to the spreadsheets.

There were a few adjustments required due to internal transfers but these were minor and are reflected in the final Statements.

The property was subject to a revaluation during the year but this was a rebuild revaluation for insurance purposes (rebuild value is £1,000,962), however in the Accounts the value has been left as £420,000.

I can confirm:

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention

  1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements

  2. to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the Charities Act and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act have not been met; or

  4. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Yours faithfully,

Nicola Pulle
