After the unprecedented events over the past few years it has been fantastic to see our young people return to some relative normality this year. All of our groups have returned to face to face meetings and our young people have been able to experience a variety of fun, challenging and adventurous activities, many of which they would not have had the opportunity to do outside of Scouting.
It was great to see the return of our (usually) annual Badge Day in April which saw Beavers from across the District complete badges such as the Cyclist, Experiment, Communicator and Air Activities and we're already looking forward to next year's event! Many of our Beavers also took part in the District's 75th Birthday Camp, some camping for the first time, and the County's Wingding event. Both of these where at Tawd Vale where they got to take part in a host of adventurous and outdoor activities such as watersports, climbing and archery.

The high quality programmes being offered throughout the District are down to the hard work and enthusiasm shown by all of our volunteers and I would like to extend my personal thanks to everyone for contributing to this. Looking forward to the next 12 months we’ll be aiming to put on more events and activities and I’m hoping to see more growth both in terms of our Young People and the Adults involved with running Beavers across the District.

Over the last year we’ve had some great activities.
There was Great Escape, an invitation to take part in a Taste of Explorers camp, where the link between Scouts and Explorers could be strengthened, and more recently shooting activities have started back up again. Massive thanks to Warren as usual!
Over the next year we’ve got plans for a bowling competition, quiz, orienteering competition a camp and a cooking competition.
It would be great if I could have some ideas for activities and support with running these activities. Dave Philp ADC Scouts

Simply, a year of starting to return to normal!
Yes, Covid is still with us but we are learning to live with it and adapt, #BePrepared. So, where do we begin.
Following on from our meetings during the summer of 2021 down at camp fire circle at the Brewhouse, we started meeting back at Read Hall, Brackenwood Estate, Bebington in September 2021. Our numbers were good, with an average of 25 Explorers turning up weekly. This was good to see following lock down that so many young people wanting to continue their Scouting journey. The numbers were so good, we had nearly the same numbers on a waiting list. This was not something I liked to see, but had no choice due to limited leader numbers available weekly, and the hall size.

Due to this, as a trial, post-Christmas, we decided to run two units meeting on alternate weeks. This would enable us to get those off the waiting list and keeping their hand in with Scouting, but also retain those who were currently Explorers. This decision was made with the Explorers and one they supported. Following the trial, and due to personal commitments (work, up and coming exams etc) some Explorers decided not to continue. This enabled us to join the units back together, and run with one unit again returning to weekly meetings.
We have this spring/summer started back camping, having run 3 camps so far this year, starting with our camp in May, a Taste of Explorers camp in June, which we only had Scouts from the 2nd come along to, and a much-welcomed return to the calendar this September, Mersey Moot. Something the Explorers always seem to be keen to do is camp. We have done a couple of these along side our Networkers. This also enables the older Explorers see and speak to them with a view of them moving on when old enough.

A big thankyou to firstly, Lee. Lee is our newest leader, and is still completing his woods, but he has been there week after week and is eager. My thanks also go to Davey, Moo who has been able to return to weekly meetings since Easter, Jen our treasurer and the Networkers who have helped out at either unit nights or camps. We are a small team, but we get the job done.
I am wanting to recruit more leaders, mainly to help support the existing leaders but also, with a view of opening a second unit. If this is something you think maybe for you, please feel free to speak to me. I am hoping our Wirral Growth Development Officer can come up trumps as well given some time.
Along with recruiting new leaders, I am actively looking into, with some emphasis, on reintroducing Duke of Edinburgh Award as something the District can offer. This will go hand in hand with some of our top youth awards. Watch this space, but if you are interested in helping with this, again please speak to me.

We sign off to a good year for Network within Bebington District. Section numbers have increased with more future networkers ready to start there next step in the very near future. Currently a few members hold leadership positions in the district with discussions with others to which direction they want to take there scouting journey in.
Monthly meetings are going well with a program planned up to end of the year. Recent events have been Mersey Moot which was a successful weekend, which I am pleased to say as a result have now made links with a Cumbria Network section and look to plan events with them early next year. Furthermore we plan to attend Network Gathering 2023 the flagship event for network in the UK which is always known to be a fantastic event.
Links with the Explorer section remain strong with link events planned in near future including a potential joint hike camp, as-well as the consistently successful joint Christmas dinner.

Further a field I have been in discussion with the other 3 districts Network sections on the Wirral to arrange events going forward with Bebington looking to host the first event. So as I come to a close, scouting is slowly returning to normal after some challenging times. But reflecting on these last 12 months Bebington Scout Network is in a good position and with a positive outlook I do hope to see it thrive further over the next 12 months. So til I stand here again in another’s years time I wish everyone a successful and enjoyable year.
