Watford North District Scout Council
Trustee’s Report 2022
Another year has passed and Watford North is doing as well as ever. The District continues to thrive under the capable hands of District Commissioner David Collette and supported by the strong and supportive volunteers working alongside him in our Groups and on the Executive Committee.
Numbers within Watford North are fairly stable and have risen steadily over the past three years but still not quite back to pre-Covid levels. Adult volunteers continue to be the challenge and recruitment is the main task in the coming years.
Expanding downwards - in age - we have had enquiries about opening Squirrel Dray’s and this is something to plan for in 2023.
“Transformation” is something that will start to grow in importance. The overall aim is to simplify how Scouting is managed, organised and supported. Whilst the changes may be complex the end product should provide a simpler approach and administration. There will be planning to do in 2023 in this regard.
The District has been busy regarding activities - as always on all levels; Beaver construction, the Millennium Trophy, a trip to the Science Museum, Green Beret, WATOPOLY, Herts Peak Assault, …and much more. The World Scout Jamboree in South Korea will see representatives attending from Watford North.
Lees Wood, our amazing campsite, has come back to life after the disruptions of COVID. The Strategy Committee planning is taking shape and improvements are being implemented in small and lasting ways as well as the bigger plans being moved forwards.
So overall we are in a strong position. Thanks must be extended to everyone who works so hard to ensure that our young people are stimulated and offered exciting Scouting! My personal thanks to the Executive Committee members for their support and diligence. In particular to Berniece Newlan and Andrew Reeve for their work in support of the Committee and ensuring we have Minutes recording what has happened and how much it has cost!
Our District Commissioner David Collette always deserves a special thank you. He works tirelessly and with a true, unwavering passion for Scouting. The District is richer as a result of his work and he is much appreciated.
Watford North is continuing to do very well and, in my opinion, delivering Scouting at its best.
