## Objectives and activities
The Classical Road Show is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. It was formed on 9 February 1993 “for the promotion, improvement, development, and maintenance of children’s education in, and appreciation of the art and science of classical music”. It achieves this objective by staging concert performances of specially commissioned works for large groups of school pupils and by making similar materials freely available to the public on its website, as further described below.
## Achievements and performance
2023 saw the usual pattern of two Road Shows, that is two days of concerts that adopted the successful CRS formula. We were delighted to see that teachers once again embraced these opportunities to give their pupils live experience of singing in performance, at leading venues, led by professional conductors, narrators, and orchestral instrumentalists. 36 schools (29 from the state sector and 7 from the independent sector) attended our concerts. This included 10 schools who came for the first time in 2023. Schools were from 10 different London Boroughs.
We continue to make available on our website www.classicalroadshow.org resources for schools for remote access and enjoyment. Other available materials include two 30-minute videos for Primary Schools developed during the “lockdown” periods in 2020 and 2021: _ Meet the Orchestra video: Hilary Davan Wetton conducts the principals of the London Mozart Players, with lively commentary, as they play an inspiring arrangement of music by Richard Brown, including excerpts of his concert pieces, commissioned by us for our Classical Road Shows.
- Wisdom of the Animals video: this short piece is conducted by its composer, Benjamin Pope, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra ensemble, and is narrated by award-winning actor/singer Clive Rowe. Children can join in the choruses and songs, the words of which are freely available.
Our first concert of the year was held at Cadogan Hall in March 2023 and involved two full houses of 24 school groups from 9 London Boroughs including 8 new schools (in aggregate 1,302 attendees) in performances of “Battle of Britain”, narrated by Jonathan Eio and Olivia Warren, with Benjamin Pope conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the stage choir from Marlborough Primary School.
Our second concert was held in Holy Sepulchre, Holborn in June 2023, as part of the Summer Music in City Churches festival. This was a performance of “FIRE! — The Story of the Great Fire of London” with the London Mozart Players, conductor Benjamin Pope, and narrated by David Leonard and Annabelle Brown. Again we had two full houses: in aggregate 516 attendees from 12 schools from 7 London Boroughs, including 2 new schools. The stage choirs came from St Jude’s Primary School and St Peter’s Primary School, Walworth.
Free tickets enabled 267 Pupil Premium students to come to the concerts (161 at Cadogan Hall, 106 at Holy Sepulchre).
## Financial review
The concerts described above were funded primarily by the third in a series of three donations generously awarded in 2020 by the Mercers’ Company. A further donation from the Postlethwaite Music Foundation in 2020 was partly used to subsidise the attendance of 48 Pupil Premium children at the first of the 2023 concerts.

## Financial review (continued)
The remaining subsidy of £1,000 was met from the company’s reserves. Along with general administration costs of £2,000 (net of donations and sundry income). We invested £3,000 in paid support to upgrade our concert production and schools administration processes, so that Reserves fell overall during the year by £6,000 to £42,000 which is considered sufficient to fund the activities planned for 2024.
## Structure, governance, and management
The company is governed according to its Memorandum and Articles of Association by a Committee of Management comprising its Directors and Trustees. The composition of the Committee of Management was stable in 2023 after the major changes in 2022.

The Directors are the members of the Committee of Management and each has an obligation to contribute £1 by way of guarantee in the event that the company were to be wound up.
## Reference and administrative details
The Classical Road Show is the legal name by which the company is registered at Companies House and with the Charity Commission; it is the only name by which the company is and has been known. The registration numbers and the registered address are given on the title page above.

## Notes to the accounts:
1. These accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions applicable to the small companies regime and in accordance with FRS102 SORP.
2. For the year ended 31 December 2023 the company was entitled to exemption from audit under section 477 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies.
3. The members have not required the company to obtain an audit of its accounts for the current year, in accordance with section 476 of the Companies Act 2006
4. Directors’ responsibilities: The Directors acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of the Companies Act with respect to accounting records and the preparation of accounts.
5. The Directors received no remuneration during the year (2022: Nil).

Responsibilities and As the charity's trustees of the Company (who are also the directors of the basis of report company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 (“the 2006 Act”).
Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the Company are not required to be audited for this year under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, | report in respect of my examination of your charity’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”).
