It is my pleasure to welcome you all to Smalley Hall tonight, to the I st Middleton Scout Group Annual General Meeting We are currently in a time of change in the Scout Association, of which most of you will be unaware. The new version of our rules called "Policy Organisation and Rules., formally adopted on 18tli April 2023, details changes in protocol and structure as we transition towards the new 'Our Volunteering Culture,. Therefore, the immediate matter for the Group Scout Council tonight (which includes yourselves) is to formally re-adopt the new version of POR as our governing document (our constitution). The adoptioii of Item 5 on the agenda is truly relevant to us meeting the Guidelines of the Charities Commission, as the I st Middleton Scout Group is a registered charity Before I continue with matters of the Group Scout Council, I feel it incumbent on me to recognize the sudden loss of our beloved President, Brenda Holmes, earlier in the year. A lot of you will know of the long service she gave to Scouting and we are all richer for having known her. On your behalf l extend our condolences and good wishes to her family, who l am sure, like me, are all missing her. As I stated above, we are in a time of change and since our last AGM it has been the same for the 1 st Middleton Scout Group We have had to find a new Treasurer and for the past twelve months Jane has spent time obtaining the correct authorisations to enable her to manage the accounts successfully As can be seen from the balance sheet we are a very successful group with our funds being adequate for our needs. Congratulations to Jane who recently married Keith, a Beaver Leader (for many years). I'm sure you will Join me in wishing them every happiness for the future. Adult Leaders are not a resource we have that is plentiful. in fact, we are Just meeting our minimum requirements. More adults are required to meet our needs if the group is to grow in the future. Our successes this year have been the continued growth of the Scout troop and its achievements in its leadership training. The Beaver, Cub and Explorer Sections continue to grow which is great news. However, be aware that unless the Scout Troop Leadership Team grows, Cubs reaching Scout age could find that there are no places available to accommodate them. The same can be said for the Beavers and Cubs at this moment in time. Both sections are running together as the leadership team cannot sustain each section running separately. Please seriously consider offering to come and help us. Talk to any of the leaders toniglit and offer to help us go forward. Finally, thank you to everyone who has helped the group in the past 12 months, especially all the Volunteer Leaders, who each week make Scouting happen at the I st Middleton Scout Group Your precious time is very much appreciated by every young person in the group Group Scout Leader
