Structure, Governance, and Management
The Foundation is a charity registered with the Charity CommSssion. number 1017289, and is constituted under a trust
deed dated 14 January iyys, as amended by deeds dated i July 21XJ2 and lo November 2020. The Foundatlon was
established in 1993 in recognition of David Colegrave. a prominent horticultLtralist who throughout his life had taken
a keen interest in supporting and promoting the development of young people.

The purpose of the Foundation is to support the development of the ornamental hortitultural industry In the United
Kingdom by financing and supportin8 xholarships and bursaries for students interested in pursuing a career in thi5
The Foundation furthers its charitable purposes for the public benefit through its scholarship 8rantin8 poliry which
aim5 at..
financing scholarships to indlviduals studying or teathing hortlculture in the UK,. and
providing bursaries for international nursery work placements and horticultural study tours.
Public Benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have complled with the duty in section 17151 of the 2011 Charities Act to have due
regard to 8uidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit when deciding on the chariVs activitie5.
Achievement and Performance
As the only charity dedicated to supportiri8 educ*ion in horticulture, we are totally reliant on the support of our
industryi individu415 and cornpenies elon8 Wtih the ¢onsiderable input and dedication of our TruJtee- to makc it all
happen.
We continue to have an impatt on the livès and careers of new professional horticulturalists in their career
development. This is beinR increasingly recognised by a growing nL¢mber in our industry and through the continued
hard work of our Tru5tee5 in promoting theworkof the Foundation through their links withthe industry and promotion
of the charty at events includinE exhibitions and conferences.
In addition to our direct support of 16 students in 2025. we have also embarked on our support for a group YPHA
Iyoung People in Horticulture Associationl who are undertaking a Management Development training programme for
an initial 12 of their members. These 'siudents' are all involved at various levelJ of martagcmcnt in th¢ir family
businesses, companies and organisations and have responsibility for the employment of others as well as a number of
the individuals who also have roles in running the YPHA organisation.

As a charity, by raising our pmfile wtthin our settor, we have a150 been fortunate to attract some 'one off donation
during this year which add to our income. This allows us to continue and extend our core artivity of creatinE and
granting scholarships for students of horticulture. We have brought further focus to our Named Fund strate8y and
have also relaunched our Legacies fund which ha5 included a generou5 donation allowing us to set up a new scheme.
The Robert Tannahlll Travel scholarship. Our Trustees remain alert to the opportunities that can be created through
thi$ of$upport.
We continue to review the 5ki11s and input of our Trustee board against our perceived needs and challenge5. In this
year we have seert the retirement of one of our IoA8St3ndin8Trust•es. Ni8el Wait, and tske this opportunity to record
our thanks to him for his generosity of time and resource over the many year5 of his input. We have 3150 recruited hvo
new Trustee5, both with ski115 and links in our industry where we felt we could benefit. We welcome Christine Burton
and Sarah Want to our team.
Our Ilmitations are time (working Trustees) and the funds we can raise. and without our supporters and sponsors we
would not be able to see the achievements we do. uur'gratelul thanks to all who give their suprort to our attivities.
The Trustees have met face to face on two oc¢asions through the year, further supported by online, telephone and
email messa8in8 a5 required for the efficient and effective operation of our charity.

Flnanclal Review
The financial Statements show income forthe year of £71,77112024- £57.7431, con91stlng of £62,04912024-
£47,608) of donations, £9,49112024- £9,126) of investment income and £23112024- £1,LKBI of bank interest.
Scholarships and bursaries of £32,31112024. £28,8CKII were awarded durinB the year. After accounting for
administratnie expenses and investment management costs of £18,91212024. £19.4011, the Foundation reported a
surplus of income over expenditure of £20,54812024- £9,542). There were realised gains on investments of £164

affairs to be satisfartory.
Investment Pollcy and Perforniance
Investment activlties are managed in line with the requirements of the Trustee Art 20C(I.
Our investment advisors (Schroder & Co Limited) are instructed to maximise totsl return5 Wlth the constraints of
medium to low-ri5k investment portfolio.
Reserves Policy
The charitvs normal poliry is to generate and maintain adequate funds and reserves for the efficient running of the
charlty on a (Jay-to-day basls.
Risk Management
The Trustees have considered the major risks to which the charTty is exposed and have reviewed those risks and
established systems and procedures to manage those risks.

Scholarship and Burory Maktng Poliry
The Foundation has established its scholarship making policy to achieve its objeLts for the public benefit to support
the development of the ornamental horticultural Industry by finanang students pursuing a career in this field.
The trustees invite applications for scholarships and grants to all students completing horticulture related courses in
the UK and Ireland. Students must be attending college, unIver￿ty, or similar educational establishment on a full or
part time basis with a view to seeking permanent full-time employment in commercial gr produrtion ornamental
horticulture.
Trustee< responsibilities in relation to the flnancial statements
Ihe trustees are responsible tor preparing the Trustees. Report and the finanual statements in accordance with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales

of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the chartty for that period. In

The accounts have been prepared In accordance with Accounting and Keporting by Lharities: statement of
Recommended Prartice applicable to Charities preparing their accounL in accordance with the Financial
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland {FRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011.

listed investments which are measured at fair value. unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy
note. The financial ststements are presented in sterlin& which is the functional currency of the charity rounded
