The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit, and we believe we address both the “benefit” and the “public” aspects of “public benefit”

Section D Achievements and performance

The Club has continued to organise regular Sunday rides through Summary of the main the last year with only a small number unable to take place achievements of the charity because of adverse and/or unsafe weather conditions. The rides during the year benefit around 8 partially sighted stokers who ride on the rear of the tandem and 20 sighted pilots who ride on the front. All the riders talk of the enjoyment they derive from the rides with pilots in particular describing it as a life-changing activity. The activity delivers benefits for their physical and mental health as well as being a welcome social activity. The pilots would maintain that they derive similar benefits. The Club has also appeared in local news, printed and broadcast, raising awareness among the public in general of the needs, challenges and achievements of visually impaired people. The Club has members from Bury and the surrounding area and some who travel to the weekly rides from as far as Stockport.

Section E Financial review

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves

We are reliant on grants to maintain our financial viability. By their very nature, these are irregular and some grant making bodies will not award grants to charities with too large a bank balance. The main financial risk to the charity is a sustained lack of success in applying for grants combined with reduced donations. Reserves are held to cover at least 12 months operational costs to allow time for fundraising and grant applications.

Details of any funds materially in deficit
