Annual report of Dunster Pre-School Committee 2023/24. Charity number 1016823

Dunster pre-school is a small charity run pre-school serving families within West Somerset. We offer inclusive childcare and education for children aged 2-5 years.

Our staff are an experienced team and we are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing, dynamic space for children to learn and develop at their own pace.

We value the importance of outdoor learning experiences. Children that attend Dunster pre-school have regular opportunities to participate in Forest school sessions as well as having access to our allotment, activities in and around our local community and swimming during the summer term.

The committee are the trustees for the Pre-school.

The AGM was held on 4[th] October 2023 at 7pm in the pre-school room.

The chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer were re-elected, the committee was formed with new and existing members.

The constitution was adopted.

The accounts show a small profit this year, this was due mainly to an increased effort in fundraising events throughout the year including donations from local community groups.

The majority of children attending our provision are funded by the Local Authority, the inadequate government funding for early years provision has led to the pre-school bearing the extra costs of running a setting. We have, under the recommendation of our Local Authority introduced a consumable charge for parents/carers to support us with covering additional costs of snack, and everyday resources.

Yet again, our staff team endured a cut in hours in the Autumn term, we continue to have a strong experienced team and want to retain our staff, especially as there is a national recruitment crisis within the Early Years sector.

The number of two year olds attending our setting increased in September, this enabled us to secure future places for those children as well as increase our numbers over the year.

We will be looking at future fundraising events to boost our reserves.
