**Objects:** FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT FOR THE FOLLOWING PURPOSES IN THE AREA COMPRISING THE FORMER BOROUGH OF NEWBURY TOGETHER WITH THE ANCIENT CIVIL PARISHES, WHICH SHALL HEREINAFTER BE REFERRED TO AS THE 'AREA OF BENEFIT'1. TO STIMULATE PUBLIC INTEREST AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC IN THE GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, NATURAL HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE OF THE AREA OF BENEFIT, AND IN THE TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS SERVING IT2. TO PROMOTE HIGH STANDARDS OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE IN OR AFFECTING THE AREA OF BENEFIT3. TO SECURE THE PRESERVATION, PROTECTION, DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF FEATURES OF HISTORIC OR PUBLIC INTEREST IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT4. TO PROMOTE CIVIC PRIDE IN THE AREA OF BENEFIT

**Activities:** The Society is a civic society which seeks to secure the protection and improvement of features of historic or public interest in the Newbury area. It promotes high standards of planning and architecture and is frequently consulted by developers and the local planning authority. A regular newsletter is published and events including lectures, town walks and Heritage Open Days are organised.
