MARKET WEIGHTON COMMUNITY HALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT 14[th] of May 2025 (for the period 14th May 2024 to 14th May 2025)
I would like to start by thanking the Committee for all their help and support over this last year. It has only been by working together that we have been able to get to this point.
The Hall provides a valuable resource for Market Weighton and the surrounding areas but this comes with a personal cost to the Committee members in terms of ongoing commitment.
The number of users has increased in part because of the Trustees promoting the Hall. The monies raised provide a more secure financial base for the coming year. Rimmington Pharmacy of Bradford – (working in conjunction with NHS England) – have provided us with ongoing financial support through the hiring of a room for vaccinations against Covid but this is lessoning as the need decreases.
During this reporting period, three of the Hall's Trustees resigned from the committee and these resignations have been reported to the Charity Commission. Fortunately, we have been able to welcome two new Trustees and we appreciate them bringing their expertise and commitment to the role.
One of our caretakers retired and after a time of readjustment a second caretaker was finally employed. My personal thanks go out to the caretakers for their generosity in using their skills and expertise for the good of the Hall.
We have also been able to draw upon the services of a Secretary and we appreciate her ability to bring clarity and insight into our discussions.
The carpark had wooded “sleepers” put around part of its boundary as the previous ones were no longer fit for service. These were laid by Trustees.
Various issues have been discussed through the year including Data Protection, Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and CCTV and the policies have been updated or are in the process of being updated in accordance.
We are looking forward to the Hall receiving a new insulated ceiling with new lights starting May 19[th] this year. This has been possible thank to two grants: one from the Sancton Wind Farm and the second one from the Massey Trust. Thus enabling the Hall to continue to provide an attractive and efficient venue for the community.
We are looking to clarify the payment of Trustees, when they are doing a specific role, which can not be done by a general volunteer.
Future plans for the Hall include painting the inside and also exploring the possibility of solar panels to lessen the cost of electricity and be more environmentally friendly.
Once again I would like to thank the Committee for their ongoing support of the Hall and myself.
Thank you.
