The Twstees present their report thg Mth Ihe financial statements of the charity for the year ended
31st December 2024. The financial ststement has been wyed in accord￿ the accounting
pra¢trces required by law and the charitys trust de￿, the Charibes Act 2011 and the Accountlng and
Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) appkable to Charities
preparing their accounts in accordance with the Fina￿la1 Reporting Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland published on 16 July 2014.

Réerultment and Appolntment of Trustees
The only body with the power {￿1th1n the Temis of the Constittrtion) to appoint a Trustee is the f￿[
membership of the Charity. The Trustees are appointed at Annual General Meeting,{AGM) and
hold offKe until Ihe foll￿1n9 Annual General Meeting. The Trustees must be members of the charty.
and are made up of a Chairperson. Secretary. Treasurer. Callout C(Fordinator, Training Officer.
Equipment Officer arKI two Committee members elected from the general membership. There is no
bar on a Trustee standing for offte on successive tenns. Candidates for PO￿On8 conferring
trusteeship must be nominated rK)t kss than 21 da￿ prior to the AGM, and Mtified to the
membership not Jess than 14 days prior thereto.

The Associati¢)n is governed by ts consti1u￿. vthich revised in 21x11. amthmled in 2011. and is
registered charity M. 1015934. Trus Conslitution was revised in 2014 and earty 2015. and again in
late 2015 at the request of the Charity Comrnission. It vrds approved by members in early 2016. The

2. Organlsatlon (¢ont)
The Trustees are elected annually, and met 7 times as a Committee during the year. Members may
attend any Commlttee meetlng. A sul>commlttee of trainlng assessors also meets regularfy and
advises the Trustee8 about progress of search dog teams.
3. Relatlonshlp wlth other ¢harltl•s wlth slmllar obJectlv•s
The Association works closely with mountsln rescue teams In the Lake District, with its local umbrella
body, the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association, and Mountain Rescue(England
and Wales), the natlonal body. Assoclatlon members are drawn from individual Lake Dlstrict
mountain rescue teams. It also liaises closely thqth slster organisations in thi8 country and abroad, in
order to disseminate knowledge and1è8m from others. arKI Is an 88soclate member of the ICAR
(Intematlonal Comm1881on for Alplne R88cue).
The A88odatlon 58 not rellant on ary team or Govemlng Body for Its fundlng, but roc•lve$
contribulions towards Its runnlng costs from tha Lake Distrlct Search and Mountaln Rescue
A880ciatlon each year.
4. Actbvltl•8 and achlevomènts
2024 has b•en a challenglng year In many ways, but developments havé bean madé In how we Nn
the assoclatlon, Includlng changes to 88sessment of dogs. and Improved Mnnectlons wlth
neighbouring 8earch dog assoclatlons. following a number of searches where the a8sociation8
¢omblned to support Lake Di8trlct Teams. On one of these, a vlsttlng se•rGhdog, Bramble from the
north east, found a missing vulnerable woman in fore8try near Kegwtck. Search Dog Broch (Kegwlck)
located a missing man in Borrowdale early In the year, and also assisted SARDA Wales with a blg
search In the Carneddau. Search Dog Je8s (Wasdale) contlnues lo Support Wa8dale MRT and ha8
been instrumentsl In olther findlng or locating a number of mlsper8 In the Scafell area. In total, the
team8 responded to 33 requests for asBl8tanGe wlth locatlng m1881ng per80n8.
Two new 8earchdogs, Cellldh, an Engllsh Shepherd, and Rlver, a Border CollSe have been added to
the operational team, now numberlng 8 . Thls has at tlmes been reducad by illness or injuries. Three
more teams are currently in tralnlng - Something of a drop by comparlson wlth prevlous year8. We
have also lost Search Dog Lewis to forced early retlrement because of Injury. and Search Dogs181a
and Fem at tho end of long and dlstlngulshed careers. Our TraSllng dog Brock ha8 al80 8tood down-
which has left us wlth a much depleted callout118t.
Tralning contlnuès, both monthly and weekday evenlngs, but has been affected by the avallabilty of
888essors & tralners at tlmes- often caused by the huge demand on local rescue teams from where
our personnel are drawn. We are Indebted to our volunteers vtho come out in all y￿ather8 to act as
casualtle8. and local18ndowners thllo make land for tralnlng available The retiremont from assesslng
by Laura Connolly and Joy Grindr<xl, two experienced tralners had an impact, whilst overall the
monthly programme has continued to suffer because of the pressure of increasing visitor numbers on
accommodation, parklng and congestion. The Scottlsh ￿nter course was run, though winter
¢onditSons this year ￿ere not Ideal for the type of tralning planned.

Another pressure has been that of income falling, whilst costs such as dog insurance and veterinary
care Continue to rise sharply. The Association has been given great support from our parent body,
Lake Distrtct Search and Mountain Rescue Association, but like many charities, this year we have
had to run a deficit. This has led to a reduction in expendiiure In various areas of operation. We
Icome any support from the public to continue our Ilfe saving *rrk. and measures are in hand to
try and boost income this year, in addition to Ihe Open Day. talks to gro￿$ and attendance$ at
varlou8 public sh¢xYs which * already undertake.
S. Flnanclal Rovlow
During the year, the Associatlon had a total Income of £52224 (2023- £55.656). arKI an
expendtlure of £68.663 (2023 - £76,717), resulting in nel outgoing resources f(Y the charity of
£16,439 (2023 net outgolng resources of £21,061) before revaluation of investrnents. In addition to
Income and expenditure, there were unreallsed gains in the value of investments of £19,455 (2023 -
gains of £17,483) The closlng reserves at 31 December 2024 were £480,016. (2023 - £477,000).
Of the total do8lng re8effts. £2 are restrthd funds and the bala￿e are unrestricted.
6. Re•orvM poficy
The Trustees have had regard to bolh the short and lon*leim needs of the Assoclatlon In
revIe￿ing this policy. As the pandemic has changed our revenue streams, we will need to rely on
more onllne and dlre¢t appeal fundraising . W our future operations contlnue unchanged from
previous y•ars. and the costs of training, equipment and travd are subject to h￿h level8 of inflation.

its tralnlng operations is secure. Consequenty, the expendrture budget for the forthcoming year 1$
based on the estimated requirements of the communications and equipment needs and Ihe training
offlcefs budget in a nomal year. agalnst Ihe Income from the current year.
The trustses have adopted a cautlous. rfsk-averse approach to Investment. Apart from the
Immediate access lunds which make up about 25% of assets, a further 25% Is invested in medium
lerm accounts or investrnents *thi¢h be called upon S￿￿[￿. and the remainder in a growtng
longer tem investment with Brewin Dolphln thich acts as a reserve, but which also can provide
Income rf required. In that way. Ihe ¢apital is secure and addilional Income accrues from interesL

7. Investment pollcy (Cont
This policy is kept under reiryew. but unless, or until. substantial excess funds become available for
investment to provide guaranteed income against annual Nnning costs, the trustees remain of the
opinion that their relatively cautious approach to investrnent 55 justffied.
8. Grants policy
The Association does not make grants to outside bodies, as all Its operattons are organised
temalty. Accordingly, last year, we made no grants to other charitable organisations, and all
expenditure was geared to supportlng Its own charitable obje¢tSves.
9. Rlsk manag•mont & trustee Indemnity insurance
The trustees have ¢onsidered the major risks wthlch Ihe charity faces, and confimi that its system of
regular meetings to review progress, expenditure and costs provides a robust mechanism to lessen
those risks. Those funds not invested are held in UK banks and building societies, viithin the £85K
mit of financial compensation. with a requirement of t￿ signatories lor any transaction. The
Trustees continue to invest in indemnty insurance to protect them against legal action. The Charity
continues to be registered the Data Commissioners Office to compty wrth the requlrements of
GDPR. DocumentatÈon is stored in the Cloud via Microsoft OffKe 365.
Tntstees Responslbllltles in relation to the Flnan¢ial Ststements
The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the financlal statements in
accordance wlth applicable law and United Kingdom AGccounting Stsndards (United Kingdom
Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial
statements for each financial year which gpie a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity
and of the income resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing
these ffinancial stalemenls. the trustees are required to:_
- select sultable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
- obseNe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
make Judgements and esttmates that are reasaonable and prudent;
- state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed. subject to any
material departures being disclosed and explained in the ffinancial ststements. and
- prepare the financial statements on a going conern basis unless it Ss InapproprSale to
presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responslble for keeping proper accounting records that di8¢lose v￿th reasonable
accuracy at any time the financial position of the ¢harlty and enable them to ensure that the financial
statements comply wth the Charities Act 2011. They are responsible for safeguarding the assets of
the charity and. hence. tsking reasonable steps for the prevention and detedion of fraud arml other
