Trustees’ Report 2024
This year has been a very busy year for Middlesbrough District Scouts. There has been the introduction of The Board of Trustees, and the departure of The Executive Committee. The Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together to ensure Scouting in Middlesbrough is run safely and legally. At the heart of their role is a focus on strategy, performance and assurance.
During the year, planning permission was sought and granted for an extension to our Scout Headquarters. This will include the building of some new toilets and the passageway from one end of the building to the other to prevent having to go through the toilets. General maintenance is ongoing with fire alarms being updated and CCTV being extended, new door locks have been fitted. A speaker system has been fitted. A defibrillator has been installed.
A Muslim group, Fitya, has eventually opened after a lot of behind-the-scenes work. They are under the direction of the 43[rd] Group at the moment until they are able to break off on their own. They have opened both a Cub pack and a Scout troop, with 14 and 16 members respectively and quite a number of leaders who are undergoing training.
In September, a school, Education Plus began using the premises from Monday to Friday. This is for pupils who are unable to access mainstream education.
The District took part in the County Fun Day which was held at Commondale. District funded the cost of the coaches.
There is concern that some groups are fairly low in numbers. It is hoped that this can be rectified in 2025.
