The Shoal of Friends Treasurer’s Annual Report 2023
This has been a productive year for Shoal finances despite doing less fundraising towards the end of the year. For example, it was not possible for Shoal to organise a Christmas raffle, due to lack of volunteers.
The overall figures for the year 2023 are:
Balance 31 December 2022: £7,401.15 Total income during the year: £36,034.12 Total monies paid out during the year: £37,922.37 Balance 31 December 2023: £5,512.90
Additional details of Income are listed at the end of this report. Key points are:
-
i. The biggest source of income was from a generous donator who has donated a total of £28,250 during the year to specifically help the nursery in these difficult times. This money has been transferred promptly to the nursery. As these large donations have meant that Shoal’s income for the year has exceeded £25,000, we are required by the Charity Commission to provide accounts for them which are independently examined.
-
ii. Shoal has also had several successful bids on the Good Exchange Website. Monies received during the year have totalled £6,408.70. This included money for nursery IT, minibus costs, SEN equipment and to assist with the installation of solar panels.
-
iii. Shoal, with staff members, organised a Fun Run in spring 2023. This was a very enjoyable event and raised over £800. Other fundraising events included Christmas cards and an Easter colouring competition.
-
iv. Shoal also receives regular monthly payments from West Berkshire Lottery, plus occasional donations from Amazon Europe.
-
v. A small petty cash amount is held in addition to the monies in the bank account. The total of petty cash on 31 December 2023 is £98.10.
Additional details of outgoings are listed at the end of this report. Key points are:
-
Donations from a generous donor totalling £25,000 have been paid to the nursery during this period. (See additional note below)
-
A total of £9686.70 has been transferred to the nursery in respect of money received from Good Exchange bids. (See additional notes below)
-
Shoal has also donated an additional £2019.96 to the nursery (for new bikes, Family Centre mats and a donation towards a new server). A donation was also made to the Family Centre of £645, to pay bus expenses for a group trip to the seaside.
-
There were a number of expenses relating to fundraising costs. These totalled £260.71 and primarily related to the Fun Run.
