SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity's work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits lo society as a
whole.
The year ended 30.09.25 again proved
challenging. The Irend continued for more
requests to take in both cats and dogs,
coupled with slower re-homing and ever
increasing costs. At the time of writing, there
is no indication that these pressures are
easing.
Para 1.20
We took in 272 cats and kittens12024.- 2891
slight decrease from the previous year.
The number of dogs taken in at 102 {2024'.
1291 was sharply down on the previous year
as it proved more difficult to find new homes
for the particular mix of dogs that came in.
The trustees consider this was a good result
under challenging circumstances and, as
always, it was only possible bècause of the
dedication of the staff & volunteers involved.
We have worked with the British Hen
Welfare Trust since 2016, utilising the
facilities al The Ark to help rescue and re-
home Gommercial laying hens. We were
pleased to be able to carry on with this work,
although with some restrictions because of
continuing concerns about Avian Influenza
outbreaks.
The Society continues to neuter, microchip,
vaccinate
and
provide
appropriate
veterinary attention for all animals in ils care
before re-homing. In the opinion of the
trustees, the standing of the Society in the
local communi
Gonlinues to be ve
ood.

Financial Review
Review of the charity's
financial position at the end
of the penod
Para 1 21
The attached statements show the Society's
finances for the year ended 30 September
2025. Despite continuing increases in costs,
overall it proved to be another very good
year financially.
Although income from our own fundraising
events and from bank interest was down, all
other categories of income were very good,
particularly legacies. Overall, again due
mainly to legacies, total income was
extremely good.
On a less positive note, total expenditure
also rose once again to record levels. Most
categories of costs increased, but the main
factors were wages and veterinary costs.
The trustees anticipate that this trend will
continue. All expenditure is carefully
controlled but the trustees, priority is to
provide the best possible standard of animal
care that the Gharity's financial resources
can support.
The charity operates certain trading
activities in a separate company and the
profits from these operations are donated
back to the Society, to be used to further its,
haritable objectives. These activities
continued to make a worthwhile contribution
to the Society's finances.

Looking ahead, although the charitys
immediale financial position is relatively
strong. the trustees believe that continuing
increases in operating costs make the
medium and long term financial outlook less
certain,. Much will depend on future legacy
income on which the charity relies.
The trustees would like to thank a very
dedicated team of slaff and loyal volunteers,
as well as all the Society's members and
supporters for their continuing generosily.
statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22
Unrestricted funds are needed lo cover
expenditure in furtherance of the objects of
the Society and for administration, fund-
raising and support costs. Much of the
current level of total funds is tied up in
property and other fixed assets and the
trustees have designated certain funds for
anticipated capital expenditure, potential
Maintenan￿ works and for contingencies or
unforeseen events. Even taking this into
account, the Society's cash position at the
balan￿ sheet date remained extremely
good, again due to the high level of legacy
income. However, the trustees are aware
that this is in the context of rising costs and
that legacy income is unpredictable.
The Society continues to be very dependent
on volunteers for many of its, key activities.
The trustees are aware that there are likely
to be changes in the level of voluntary
management and fundraising activity that
can be undertaken in Ihe coming years,
which may potentially adversely affect both
income and costs.
Net of designated funds, and once the
Society has met its current commitments
and covered other planned outlays, the
trustees have historically considered it
prudent to have sufficient unalloGated funds
available to cover bet￿een 12 and 24
months projected normal expenditure. With
increasing costs and an uncertain outlook,
the trustees continue to be cautious and the
funds now required to meet this objective
are significantly higher than ever before.
Amount of reserves held
Para 1.22
At the balance sheet dale, 30 September
2025, Ihe level of unallocated cash
reserves was above the target range.
However, in view of rising costs and the
uncertain outlook, the trustees are satisfied
that this is reasonable and prudent in order
to help safeguard the charity's future.

Para 1.47
Donations, re-homing charges, legacies
and money raised by the charity's own
fundraising efforts are Ihe principal sources
of income.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social inveslment policy
adopted
Para 1.46
With the historically high level of the
Sociely's total funds, the trustees have
carefully considered their investment policy.
Rising costs and the un￿rtain financial
outlook mean that it is prudent to retain
significant funds thal can be readily
accessed. The trustees have concluded
that a prudent, low risk approach is
appropriate, prioritising protection of assets
over potential investment gain. Cash funds
will remain the default position. This policy
will be regularly reviewed as the Society's
financial position changes.
The trustees have given consideration to the
major risks lo which the Society may, in Ihe
trustees, opinion, be exposed. They have
taken steps lo mitigate those risks as far as
is reasonably possible. A prudent cash
reserves policy is an important element in
this, in view of the un￿rtain longer term
financial outlook. The trustees are also
conscious of the need to plan for future
continuity in the management of the
Society's affairs.
