The Trustees present their Annual Report together Mqth the financial statements of The Miss W E Lawren
1973 Charitable Settlement {Ihe Charity) for the year ended 5 April 2022.
The Trustees confimi that the Annual report and financial statements of the charity comply Mqth the current
statutory requirements, the requirements of the charitys goveming document and the provisions of the
Statement of Recommended practi￿ ISORPI 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities, issued in October 2019.
Structure> govemance and monagement
Constitution
The chariws goveming document is a Settlement dated 13 September 1973. The charity was set up by Miss
Lawrence to benefft national charities and organisations.
The settlement gives the Trustees power for a period of eighty years to apply the income from the Trust Fund to
such charitable objecls. associations and organisalions and in such shares and proportions and in such manner
in all respects as the Trustees in their absolute discretion think fit.
Methods of appointment or election of Trustees
The Trustees are join￿Y responsible for the Inductic￿ of any new trustee. The induction includes awareness of
trustee's responsibilib"es, consideration of the governing documents, administrative procedures, the history and
philosophy of the charity.
Organisational structure and decision-making policios
The Trust continues to have three Ttustees. Al Trustees give of their time freely and no Trustees remuneration
was paid in the year.
Risk management
The Trustees regulady review the risks that the charity faces. To dale. these have been restricted to the risks
associated with owning land. the need to maintain an adequate level of income from which lo make distributions
and also the risk of fraud by professional advisors. The third risk is something which the Trustees experienced
directly many years ago and there are provisions in Flace to give added protection.

Policies and objectives
The charity is organised generalty to provide assistance for local charities operating in Kintbury where the late
Mlss Lawrence, the settlor, Ilved. The objects of the charty are Mlde and owlng to the Inablllty to expend capltal
from its principal capital fund, rt continues to be the Trustees, policy to utilise their income in support mainly of
local charities, but also certain national charities sorne of Mthich the late Miss Lawrence supported in her lifetime.
Jonathan Bastable and Julian Dickins are Trustees with a local presence in Kintbury who can monitor local
charitable need.

The Trustees confirm that they are aware of the guidance contained in the Charty Commission's general
guidance on public benefrt when making grants each year. The Trusl fulfils its obligations by.-
Providing funds lo finance educational grants lo individuals of limited means resident in the
Kinlbury area
Providiiig grants to organisations providing recreational activities and STx#al support Ihe
residents of Kintbury
Providing grants to national registered charities supporting medical research. counselling and
support setvices for children and others incapacitated through age, accident, injL¢ry. physical or
mental illness
Providing grants to the above mentioned causes having an income from all 50urce5 of les5 than
£2 million per annum
Activities undertaken to achieve objectives
The Trustees, income increased fdlowng the sale of land at Kintbury for development in February 2006 and has
recovered a little following falls in f￿nt years due lo the fall in interest rates and investment retums.
The total income for the cu￿ent year was £141,309 12021.. £124,646}. The Trustees made grants tolalling
£198.63312021.' £111.517).
The Trustees provide grants lo assist young people from the Kintbury area wth the costs of tertiary education
and training and appliGation5 have been sought from and grants paid to young people.
The Trustees continue to keep under review the application of income in accordance wth the objects of the
charity.
Grant-making policies
The Trustees meet half yeady to consider the grants they wll make and to review any feedback they have
received. Most of the grants are made in April of each year.
Nominations for grants are made by formal and infomial means but all applicants are now encouraged to submit
an application via the Good Exchange platrorm or complete a standard application fomi.
The Trustees er¢courage feedback on actual use of the funds. The Trustees Mthenever possible attend fvnctions
to which Ihey are invited by the charitable organi5alions they support and rewrt on what they leam from
attending the functions.
The Trust has a legal clerk who handles the day to day correspondence relating to grants. The clet1( is an
executive at the fim) of Freeths LLP and the firm also offers legal advice to the charity.
Achievamants and performance
Review of activities
During the year the Trust has been able to continue rts support of local charities in Kintbury and it has also made
donations to larger national charities sometimes wrth condrtions limiting the use of those donations to the local
area.
The Tfustees have supported the local community by making donations lo Kinlbury B0￿Ing Club, Kintbury Wl
and Kintbury St Ma￿9 C of E Primary School. They have also provided financial assistance with the cost of
tertiary education for a young person who may otheThvise not have been able to undertake further education. .

The Trust has also made significant grants lo chaiitable organisations supporting individuals disadvantaged by
illness and medical disability including Bert(shire MS Therapy Cenlre, Eight Bells for Mental Health, Swings &
Smiles. Bertshire Youth. Riding for Disabled Association. North Hampshire Medical Fund. and The Macular
Society.
Investment policy and perfomiance
The Trustees restated their investment strategy as being lo protect the capital value of the trust fund against
inflation and maintain a balance bebNeen capital protection and income performance. The Trustees have
accepted a moderate amount of risk through their investment in the property collectives which they have
purchased to increase the income yield.
The Trustees continue to review their investment strategy.
The Trust employs Smith & Williamson Investment Management as its investment advisor and manager.
Financial review
Going concern
After making appropriate enquiries. the Trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity has adequate
rèsourees lo continuè in operational existence for the foresèèable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt
the going concem basis in preparing the financial statements. Further details regarding the adoption of the going
concem basis can be found in the accounting P)ll￿e5.
Roserves policy
The Trustees are not permitted to spend the capttal from the Trust for a period of eighty years from 13
December 1973. Following the Sale of the land in Kintbury the investment of the sale proceed5 has generated
significant increase in the income which has enabled the Trustees to make increased grants and donations.
The adequacy of the reserves policy is ieviewed annually and when appropriate income reserves are used to
support the TTUStees' grant making policy.
A reserve is held to fund Unf(￿eSeen emergency requirements.
Plans for the Future
The Trustees intend to continue to provide grants in a similar way to the current year. They wll consider other
proposals for applying the income for the benefit of the objects of the charity. They wll give preference to the
charitable organisalions which Miss Lawrence SUPPLYled during her lifetime.

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trus1ees' Report and the financial slatements in accordance with
applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Stsndards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Ac¢x)unling
Practice}.
The law applicable to charities in England & Wales requires the Trustees to prepare finanrAal statements for
each financial which give a true and fair view of the state of affair5 of the Charity and of its incoming resources
and application of resources, including its income and expenditure, for that period. In preparing these financial
statements. the Trustees are required lo=
select suitable accounting polictes and then apply them consistently,.
observe the methods and principle5 of the Charitie5 SORP {FRS 1021.,
make judgements and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent,.
state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards IFRS 1021 have been followed. subject to any material
departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements..
prepare the finan￿al statements on the going concern basis unless il is inappropriate to presume that the
Charity will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufFicienl to show and explain
the Chartys transactions and disclose wth reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity
and enable them lo ensure that the financial statements comply wth the Charities Act 2011, the Charity
(Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the Trust deed. They are also responsible for
safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence fo¥ taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of
fraud and other irregularities.

I report to the charity Trustees on my examination ofthe accounts of the Charity for the year ended 5 April 2022.
Responsibilities and Basis of Report
As the Trustees of the Charrty you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the
requirements of the charikn.es Act 2011 I'the 2011 Ad).
I report in respect of my examination of the Charitys accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and
in carrying out my examination I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under
section 14515)Ib) of the 2011 Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the
examination giving me cause lo believe that in any material respect..
accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act,. or
the accounts do not accord with those records; or

Accounting policies
1.1 Basis of preparation of financial statements
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP {FRS 1021
Accounting and Reporting by Charities-. Statement of Re￿rnMended Practi￿ applicable lo charities
preparing their accounts in accordallce with the Financial Reporting Staridard applicable in the UK
and Republic of Ireland (FRS 1021 leffeclive 1 January 2019}. the Finanaal Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Charities Act 2011.
The Miss W E Lawrence 1973 Charrtable Settlement meets the definition of a public benefit entity
under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value
unless otherwise staled in the relevant accounting policy.
1.2 Fund a￿Ounting
General fvnds are unreslricled fvnds which are available for use at the discretion of the Trustees in
furtherance of the general objectives of the Charity and which have not been designated for other
purposes.
Investment income. gains and losses are allocated to the appropriate fund.
Endomrynent funds represent the capital of the Trust which the Trustees are not pemiitted to spend for
a pellod of eighty years. Income rece¢ved from the endommient fund rs classed as unrestricted_
Investment management fees are paid out of the endowment fijnd.
1.3 Income

income wqll be received and the amount of income receivable can be measured reliably.
Income tax recoverable in relation to investment income is recognised at the time the investment
income is receivable.
other income is recognised in the period in which it is re￿1vable and to the extent the gcx)ds have
been provided or on completion of the service.
Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured
reliably by the charity.. this is nomially upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the Bank.
Dividend income is re¢>)gnised on declaration of the dividend.
1.4 Expenditure
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefft
to a third party, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in setllement and
the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.
Support costs are those costs incU￿ed directly in SLEPPOrt of expenditure on the objects of the
charity. Govemance costs are those incurred in connection with administration of the charity and
compliance with constitutional and statutory requirements.
Expenditure on raising funds includes all expenditure incurred by the Charity to raise funds for its
charitsble purposes and includes costs of all fundraising activities events and non-charrtable trading.

1.4 Expenditure Icontinuedl
Grants payable are charged in the year Mhen the offer is made except in those cases where the offer
is conditional, such grants being recognised as expenditure when the conditions attaching are
fuffilled. Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end are noted as
commitment, but not accrued as expendilure.
AJI expenditure is indusive of Irrecoverab￿ VAT.
1.5 Tangible fixed assets and depreciation
Tangible fixed assets are staled at cosl less depreciation. Depreciation is not charged on freehold
land.
1.6 Investments
Fixed asset inve51ment5 are a forni ol financial instrument and are initially recogni5ed al their
transaction cost and subsequently measured at fair value at the balance sheet date, unless the value
cannot be measured reliably in which case it is measured at cost less impaimient. Investment gains
and losses, whether realised or unreal￿ed, are combined and presented as 'GainsllLossesl on
investments, in the Statement of Financia Activities.
1.7 Debtors
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlemer*l amount after any trade discount offered.
Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid nel of any trade discounts due.
1.8 Cash at bank and in hand
Cash at bank and in hand indudes cash and $I￿rt-tem7 highty liquid investrnents Mqlh a short maturity
of three n￿nthS or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the dewsit or similar account.
1.9 Liabilities
Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the balance sheet date as a result of a past
event, it 15 probable that a transfer of economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount
of the settlement can be estimated reliably.
Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the ChaTtty anticipates it wqll pay lo settle the debt or the
amount it has received as advanced payments for the goods or SerVi￿S it musl provide.
1.10 Flnanclal Instruments
The Charity only has financial assets and finanaal liabilities of a kind that qualify as basic financial
instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially reccyJnised al transaction value and subsequenlty
measured at their settlement value.
