## Introduction
2023 saw a return to normality as much as possible in the way the Friends of Tewkesbury Hospital support the NHS locally in Tewkesbury, and particularly those who attend the hospital site. The friends continue to fundraise for and look at ways to improve, patient wellbeing and staff welfare, supporting a wide range of initiatives with the generous support of the public. During the year we continued to receive donations from the family of patients who have stayed at the hospital in acknowledgment of their kindness and support.
## Overview
The Friends continue to accept donations from a range of sources. We have used technology to improve ways which people can donate, with a card machine being used for the acupuncture clinic, a text message and online donation service and collection boxes and the usual cash donations which can be left at the hospital in the care of staff, who pass on the funds. We have also been fortunate to receive proceeds from Funeral wishes and collections as well as bequests from wills and estates. Tewkesbury is rightly proud of the hospital as a local resource for those who live locally, and donations have supported the expansion of projects in the community as well as in the hospital directly.
Fund raising in the traditional way has largely ceased, because of a lack of volunteer support. The annual fete has not been re-introduced because of the vast amount of work required in such few hands. However, the committee continues to seek
opportunities to raise awareness and funds through more modern means. Community groups and individuals contribute by fund raising on our behalf.
## Expenditure
Our donations this year were in support of the acupuncture clinic, which continues to be a success in the community as well as induvial items which are listed on the new website. We have now started spending in a bit more detail and have some large items planned for the end of the year. We have supported the chaplaincy service at the doctor’s surgery on site. This reduced patient appointments and aided people who need a listening ear, mainly while they wait for mental health or other advocacy services. We have been pleased to further support cancer rehabilitation classes in the community alongside other partners who have donated time and resources to aid improved outcomes for the people who attend.
The year also saw us purchasing key equipment for the hospital and those who work in the community. Items such as a non-invasive test for jaundice on babies has seen technology improve outcomes for patients. We have also renewed our dementia support programmes which help those with this dreaded illness feel more settled if they are in hospital and unfamiliar surroundings.
## Conclusion
We have provided another year of support to the community by looking after the donations received and ensuring any capital we have is spent wisely, but also invested to ensure it can go as far as possible. Our accounts show we continue to meet our remit, and are happy to support local health services for the foreseeable future, thanks to the kindness of local residents and businesses.

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Tewkesbury Hospital Friends (Charity number 1013759).**
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2023, which are set out on the attached accounts.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider than an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to: Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act;
And to state whether particular matter have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiners report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which give me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 30 of the 2011 Act; and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
