The Annual Report of the Trustees of the League of Friends of Tewkesbury Hospital.
Introduction
2021 saw the continuation of the global pandemic, though it certainly eased in many aspects during the year. However, the NHS continues to see unprecedented pressure and the acute trusts were increasingly relying on the local hospitals to aid them in allowing people to convalesce without the pressure on beds that a pandemic presented. The Local hospital beds have been used for supporting these issues, with the hospital providing extra space and beds when required. The theatre was shut and used as covid overspill and the out of hours service was seriously curtailed to provide all resource that could be ‘spared’.
Overview
From a financial perspective, the Friends of Tewkesbury hospital were incredibly fortunate to receive another large bequest left in a will. This added greatly to our income for the year and to our overall capital reserves. With the Pandemic still causing issues, there was little business as normal at the hospital and many of the outpatient services were severely curtailed or closed as mentioned above. The staff at the hospital were simply amazing and coped with all the demands placed on them during a very trying year. The Friends have been pleased to support them financially with simple gifts and donations as mentioned below.
Activities
Our activities this year were limited to online meetings only. We performed no fund raising activities until the vaccination program started when donation tins were placed to see if we could call upon the continued goodwill of the residents of Tewkesbury to donate as they sought to get vaccinated which started at the very end of 2020 and led into 2021.
Expenditure
Our donations this year were in support of the acupuncture clinic, which continues to be a success in the community when it is running (restricted because of Covid19). We have now started spending in a bit more detail and have some large items planned for the end of the year. Full details will soon be on our new and revamped website.
Conclusion
The year has been one of unprecedented challenge. We have bene proud to support the local hospital and Doctors in the issues they have had to face and to safeguard funds for future use.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Tewkesbury Hospital Friends (Charity number 1013759).
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2021, which are set out on the attached accounts.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider than an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to: Examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; To follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act;
And to state whether particular matter have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiners report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which give me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: to keep accounting records in accordance with section 30 of the 2011 Act; and to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
