## Our Objectives 

- **ADVANCE EDUCATION PARTICULARLY OF PERSONS OF SOMALI ORIGIN IN EALING, BY THE PROVISION OF LANGUAGE AND LITERACY CLASSES, AND BY THE PROMOTION OF THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF SOMALI PEOPLE WITHIN THE HOST COMMUNITY, AND IN SUCH OTHER CHARITABLE WAYS AS THE COMMITTEE MAY DETERMINE FROM TIME TO TIME.** 

- **RELIEVE POVERTY, PARTICULARLY AMONGST PERSONS OF SOMALI ORIGIN IN EALING BY THE PROVISION OF ADVICE, INFORMATION AND SUPPORT IN THE AREAS OF WELFARE BENEFITS, HEALTH, HOUSING AND TRAINING.**

## PROJECT ACTIVITIES 

## **Community Connection Project** 

**The aim of the service is to bring together the local community and provide support to the most vulnerable. Our project targets all sections of the community with a further aim of creating a platform for their voices to be heard and to be resilient tin coping with life’s challenges. The project has engage with over 100 beneficiaries this year. The services provided are as follows;** 

- **Keep-fit and Healthy Eating sessions: We organise keep fit sessions for women and girls with mixed abilities. We also run sessions on healthy lifestyle and nutrition.** 

- **General Information, Advice and Guidance: Support provided to deal with welfare rights issues such as claiming for Universal Credit, Funeral and Grieving Payment support;confronting domestic violence; addressing debt and arrears (such as rent and council tax) issues; any other support required by users Coping support: Ongoing COVID 19 education, a Befriending service focused on reducing social isolation post-pandemic and mentoring for students impacted by the pandemic** 

- **A monthly girls and women’s forum: We will establish a selfhelp and safe space for women and girls to interact by dealing with common issues of concern and finding solutions through communal support facilitated by ESWCA staff and volunteers.**

**We continuously to talk to and listen to our beneficiaries and residents to understand their ever changing needs and to come up with workable solutions.**

## **Community Consultations** 

**Mr A is 82yrs old and is from Nepal and a former Gurkha seeing over 30yrs of military action for the British Army rising to the position of major.** 

**Mr A was facing homelessness and due to lack of support from any institution, he reached a point where he confided in us that he was finding living life a chore. We supported him secure sheltered accommodation and involved him in our community activities. Our intervention has transformed his life so much so that Mr A is now one of active volunteers supporting other Nepalese elders that come to our services.**
