The mission statement of the Archives and Museum run by the Charity is:1. To collect, preserve and interpret for the benefit of the public, archives, pictures, artefacts and manuscripts relating to mental health.2. To promote wider knowledge of the history of mental health care and treatment.3. To contribute generally to the public understanding and de-stigmatisation of mental illness.

Objects: (1) To Provide For The Advancement Of Public Education And In Particular But Without Prejudice To The Generality Of The Foregoing In The History And Development Of Psychiatry And The Relationship Between Art And Psychiatry (2) (A) To Provide And Maintain A Museum For The Benefit Of The Public Comprising A Collection Of Paintings Watercolours Drawings Documents Books Artefacts Tapes Slides Photographs And Other Objects Relating To The History And Development Of Psychiatry And The Relationship Between Art And Psychiatry (B) To Accept The Ownership Of (Except For Any Archives Or Public Records In The Possession Of The Authority) And To Safeguard And Maintain And Administer Such Paintings Watercolours Drawings Documents Books Artefacts Tapes Slides Photographs And Other Objects As Shall From Time To Time Together Comprise The Collection (C) To Safeguard Maintain And Administer The Public Records And Archives Generally In The Possession Of The Authority Subject To The Provisions Of The Public Records Acts 1958 And 1967 Or Any Future Legislation Of A Similar Nature
