**Charity number: 1011970** ## **Churchover Village Hall** ## **Annual Report for the year ended 31 August 2024** ## Introduction The Village Hall Charity is managed by a group of volunteer trustees whose primary purpose is to maintain a village hall for the use of Churchover residents and for the benefit of Churchover residents. This is done within the bounds set by the Charity Commission. ## Activities during the year ended 31 August 2024 This past year the Trustees have continued in theirremit to maintain and develop the infrastructure of the building. In particular: - additional electrical sockets have been installed - an extractor fan in the kitchen has been installed - routine maintenance work has been completed including repairs to the toilets - the electrical wiring has been upgraded - the Wifi has been boosted in the hall - the curtains which were badly marked have been spot cleaned as professional cleaning was cost prohibitive. ## Solar Panels The main investment in the infrastructure of the hall has been the installation of solar panels on the roof of the village hall. This was funded by a generous grant of £20,000 from National Gas, this is the maximum grant they can make and demonstrates their commitment to the village in mitigating the impact of the proposed works to the pipeline extension in the village. Thank you to the trustees involved in securing the grant (Sue Betts and Jane Cottle) and also to the sub group of Trustees who worked on this project (Ed Browne, Jane Cottle, Dave Proctor and Nigel Clowse), getting quotes, specifications and ensuring the best providers for our needs - and not least, the villagers who helped clear the side of the Village Hall to enable scaffolding to be erected for the installation of the panels. **Charity number: 1011970** ## Other grants We tried but were unsuccessful in engaging with Metkas, the solar farm installers which was disappointing, but the solar farm is not in our Parish, even though we are more greatly impacted by it that Harborough Magna. We will continue to look for other grant opportunities for which we may be eligible. ## Future project work There is still a lot of work needed to maintain the building and we plan to apply to the Parish Council for funds from the 2025 Section 137 grant in the May application window to support us financially with the cost of projects in the future. ## Governance We have developed a Reserves Policy which covers the expenses associated with the unlikely event that the hall should closes. Additionally, we reviewed and revised a number of our other policies to ensure that they were upto date and reflected best practice. Ed Browne, our treasurer has worked tirelessly to get our Energy bills sorted with SSE and eventually went to the ombudsman who agreed in our favour that their service levels had been very poor and recommended they compensate us, which they did to the sum of £150. The Village Hall is well used by local people for many different types of events. Hall hire revenue is very important to ensure we can manage our running costs. ## Trustees There were some changes to the make up of the Trustees this year. Rolly Leonard stepped down as Chairman and on behalf of the trustees, I would like to thank Rolly for his contribution to the Village Hall in the past. We are acutely aware of the amount of work Rolly undertook and are grateful that he is still involved (albeit at more of a distance) to support us. Sue Betts took on the role of acting chair and handed over the role of booking secretary to Jane Cottle who has done a brilliant job in looking after hall bookings and all the associated hassle that goes with it. ## **Charity number: 1011970** We welcomed Diane Gregory as a new Trustees and are pleased to have her on board. Thank you to all trustees for their continued support and commitment to the Village Hall. Firstly to Sue Betts for chairing the Trustees with huge thanks to Lesley Browne in her role as secretary, Ed Brown in the role of treasurer, Jane Cottle in the role of booking secretary with Diane Gregory, Nigel Clowes, Dave Proctor as hard working trustees, and finally Andrew Robinson representing the Parish Council, without whom this important village asset would not run.
