ThetrusteeswhoarealsodirectorsofthecharityforthepurposesoftheCompaniesAct2006,presenttheirreport with
thefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyearended31March2022.Thetrusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisions of
AccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparing their
accountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS 102)
(effective 1 January 2019).
CHAIRS REPORT
AstheharshestrestrictionsoftheCovidpandemicbegantorelaxinthe12monthsfromApril2021toMarch2022, it
becamepossibletoreturntoin-personcollaborations,rehearsals&performanceswhicharethelifebloodof WCTT
activities.MostnotablywereturnedtotheNewWimbledonTheatreforourannualperformancesandourthanksgo out
to Nick Parr, NWT Theatre Director, and his team.
Onlinevideoworkshopsandrunthroughsgavewaytofacetofaceinteraction,withtheexcitement,passion &
camaraderieoftheYoungActorsCompanyshiningthroughasyoungpeoplecametogethertoproduceinspiring, original
performances, led by an indefatigable creative team, for the benefit of different communities in the Borough of Merton.
These12monthsalsosawachangeinourcreativeleadershipwithAndrewAltysteppingawayfromthe Creative
Producerroleafteramagnificent10-Yeartenure.ThesheersizeoforiginalcontentgeneratedbyAndyis impressive
enoughbeforeyoufactorinhowmanylivesofouryoungactorshehasinfluencedandthewidercommunitiesthat have
benefitted.WewillalwaysbeindebtedtoAndyforeverythinghehasdoneforourcharity,wayover&beyond any
reasonable expectation, and we wish him well with his new projects at the Green Arts Centre in Mitcham.
Mygenuinethanksasalways,bothpersonallyandonbehalfofthecharity,gotoouryoungactors,ourcreative teams,
our supporters and our trustees for their continued support.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
CREATIVE PRODUCERS REPORT 2021/22
This was a year of renewal and rebuilding for WCTT and its flagship Young Actors Company (YAC).
Inourspringandsummerterms,2021,ourmemberswerestillconstrainedbytheCOVID19pandemicsowe embarked
uponwriting,directing,performingandeditingaseriesoffilmstocelebrateWimbledonCommon's150th anniversary,
andMitchamCommon's130th.TheInCommonprojectwasfundedbyWimbledonCommonConservatorsand London
Borough of Merton Arts Fund.
Acrossthetwoterms,membersfromallthreeofourgroupswereabletomeetinCOVID19-safeenvironmentsin indoor
andoutdoorspacesonandaroundthetwocommons.WeweregivenaccesstofilminglocationsincludingMerton Abbey

Overthesummer,ateamofcreatives,includingourowndirectorsandyouththeatremembers,workedoneditsof the
threefilms.Attheendofthesummerterm,ourthreeActswereinvitedtoinformalscreeningsoftheuneditedfilms, with
drinks and popcorn supplied, to see their work so far.
OnSeptember262021,wepresentedthefinaleditsofthethreefilmsatoneoutdoorfilmscreeningatCanonsHouse &

Thescreeningwasaccompaniedbyanartexhibition,inspiredbyWimbledonandMitchamcommons,createdby primary
schoolchildrenfrom6schoolsintheboroughcontributing85piecesof artwork:

Weoffered250freeticketsfortheeventandallsoldoutinadvancewith181attending.Ontheday,thecommunity and
ouryoungperformerscametogethertocelebratethecommonsandenjoythethreeuniqueshortfilmsina beautiful,
local setting: Canons House & Grounds.
o 4 volunteers provided event support
o 4 films shown on the day, starring 55 young actors
o 71 event evaluations completed of which:
o 61% said it was their first visit to the space
o 80% said that the 'really enjoyed' the event
o 32% attended from CR4 (Mitcham) and 48% from
other local areas
WealsomarkedthedepartureofAndrewAltyasourcreativeproduceratthisevent.Andrewmovedtoacreativerole at
theGreenArtsCentreinMitchambutagreedtocontinueasourfundraiserforoneacademicyeartosupport WCTT
through a period of transition.
Insummer2021,wemadethedifficultdecisiontotemporarilyreduceourofferingtotwoyouthgroups,rather than
three,andtolaunchourprogrammelaterintheyearthanusual:westartedouractivitiesinOctober,rather than
September.Thistemporarychangeprovidedtimetofindnewstaffmembers,andfunding,inordertocontinue operating
our youth theatre.
WewereabletoofferalltheyoungpeoplewhowantedtoworkwithusduringthisyearaplaceineitherActTwoor Act
Three.Wewelcomed19memberstoActTwoand18memberstoActThree.Wealsoofferedour15opendoorplaces to
thosewhowouldnototherwiseaffordit.Numbersfluctuatedthroughthetermsandwefinishedwith35members across
thetwoActs.Weembarkeduponthisyear'sthemeof"StoriesofSurvival"(SOS).Aprojectthatwouldnotonly involve
theYoungActorsCompanybutalsoreachouttoMertonSchoolsandhelpestablishanewyouththeatreintheEast of
the borough: Green Arts Centre.
ThegroupsinYoungActorsCompanybegantodevisetheirownstoriesandworkontheirproductionsthatwould take
placeinNewWimbledonTheatreStudiolateMarch2022.Thesewerefullproductionswithlighting,sound,costume and
set.Formanyofouryoungmembers,thiswastheirfirsttimebackinfrontofaliveaudiencesincethestartof the
pandemic.
WCTTincollaborationwithGreenArtsCentrebegantodeliver25x1hourstimulusworkshopsto10schoolsin Merton
betweenJanuaryandMay2022.Theseworkshopswerebasedaroundthewordsurvivalandwhatitmeanstothe young
people.Theschoolswerethenfreetocreateanyartwork-visualorperforminginresponsetothisstimulus.7outof 10
of the schools produced artwork for the sharing in July 2022.

ThisperiodJanuarytoAprilalsosawWCTTlenditssupporttoGreenArtsCentrebywayofCPDfortheir practitioners
withobservationsandteamteaching.Therewasalsotheopportunityforbothyouththeatrestocometogetherand share
thespaceallowingtheyoungerparticipantsatGACtolearnfrommoreexperiencedYACmembersandforYAC members
to practice their facilitating and leadership skills.
StrawberryYoghurtbyActTwoandASeriesofPublicApologiesbyActThreeweretwoofthemostsuccessfulshows to
datewithanaverageattendanceat78%ofcapacityand30freeticketstakenupbythoseschoolsthathad participated
intheSOSworkshops.Thisallowedustoconnectwithchildrenandfamilieswhowouldn'tnormallycometoNWT from
the east of the borough meaning we can continue to diversify our membership and fill our open door places.

Afterashortperiodofcoverasourcoordinator,KateMcGregorleftWCTTinDecember2021tostarther maternity
leave.WeinvitedGraceAlexander-ScotttostepintotheroleasWCTTcoordinator,initiallyonaone-termcontract, to
ensure the work the Young Actors started in October could be completed.

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Wimbledon Civic Theatre Trust Limited ('the Company')
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Company for the year ended 31 March 2022.
Responsibilities and basis of report
Asthecharity'strusteesoftheCompany(andalsoitsdirectorsforthepurposesofcompanylaw)youareresponsible for
the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 ('the 2006 Act').
HavingsatisfiedmyselfthattheaccountsoftheCompanyarenotrequiredtobeauditedunderPart16ofthe2006 Act
andareeligibleforindependentexamination,Ireportinrespectofmyexaminationofyourcharity'saccountsas carried
outundersection145oftheCharitiesAct2011('the2011Act').IncarryingoutmyexaminationIhavefollowed the
Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5) (b) of the 2011 Act.
Independent examiner's statement
Ihavecompletedmyexamination.Iconfirmthatnomattershavecometomyattentioninconnectionwith the
examination giving me cause to believe:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or
3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a true and fair view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or
4. the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of the Statement of Recommended Practice for accounting and reporting by charities (applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)).
Ihavenoconcernsandhavecomeacrossnoothermattersinconnectionwiththeexaminationtowhichattention should
be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Thefinancialstatementsofthecharitablecompany,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,have been
preparedinaccordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicabletocharitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancial Reporting
StandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',Financial Reporting
Standard102'TheFinancialReportingStandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland'andthe Companies
Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
Income
AllincomeisrecognisedintheStatementofFinancialActivitiesoncethecharityhasentitlementtothefunds,it is
probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Expenditure
Liabilitiesarerecognisedasexpenditureassoonasthereisalegalorconstructiveobligationcommitting the
charitytothatexpenditure,itisprobablethatatransferofeconomicbenefitswillberequiredinsettlement and
theamountoftheobligationcanbemeasuredreliably.Expenditureisaccountedforonanaccrualsbasisand has
beenclassifiedunderheadingsthataggregateallcostrelatedtothecategory.Wherecostscannotbe directly
attributedtoparticularheadingstheyhavebeenallocatedtoactivitiesonabasisconsistentwiththeuse of
resources.
Taxation
The charity is exempt from corporation tax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Restrictedfundscanonlybeusedforparticularrestrictedpurposeswithintheobjectsofthecharity. Restrictions
arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
