The Trustees are pleased to present their report together with the financial statements of the Society for the year ended 30 September 2024.
## **Legal and Charitable Status**
Constitution in 1987, is a recognised English Charity (No. 1011605) and a recognised Scottish Charity (No. SC038025).
## **Aims**
The Society aims to promote the provision of best quality care for children with skin problems and to support their families to access this; to stimulate and promote appropriate medical and scientific research and to publish the results of such research; to contribute to the education of trainees in dermatology and of scientific workers in the field of dermatology; to arrange and provide for the holding of scientific meetings and symposia; and to raise funds.

## **Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees**
All Trustees are appointed or reappointed by the executive committee members at our Annual General Meeting which is held in November each year.
## **Review of the Period**
## **Membership**
As of October 2024:

During the year, 18 new members joined. Membership fees remain at £75 for ordinary members and £10 for trainees.

Our Executive Committee, elected by members, is responsible for the governance of BSPAD.

## **Conferences and Education**
Educational activites in the last year
- �x BSPAD Annual Meeting 2023 �– Newcastle.
- �x BSPAD at BAD 2024 �– Manchester, vascular themed.
- �x BSPAD at RCPCH 2024 �– Birmingham, with joint sessions and workshops.
- �x Future meetings are planned for Cambridge (2024), Nottingham (2025), Dublin (2026), GOSH London (2027), and Oxford (2028).
Special study days including the Psychodermatology Study Day (2025)
BSPAD also launched an Expert Lecture Series for members, delivered online by UK leaders in paediatric dermatology, providing interactive case-based education.
## **Research and Grants**
BSPAD remains committed to fostering high-quality research. Key highlights:
- �x Annual BSPAD/BSF £10,000 research grant �– 2024 awarded to study the impact of sex and intimacy on young people with skin conditions.
- �x Joint funding initiatives with UKDCTN/NES to support trials in eczema and acne.
- �x BSPAD Fellowship Small and Major Grants (£500�–£2,000) for early-career members
## **Guidelines, Education, and Patient Resources**
- �x Consensus guidelines on the management of infantile haemangiomas and port wine stains are being developed
- �x Collaborative work with the BAD produced new patient information leaflets for children and young people, with new topics launched in 2024�–25 including food allergy and eczema, mastocytosis, and lymphoproliferative conditions
- �x A paediatric dermatology training pathway is being piloted in London and Bristol, supported by discussions with the RCPCH Head of Schools
## **Media and Advocacy**
BSPAD collaborated with the BAD communications team and external media to raise awareness on:
- �x Skincare product use among children (BBC Bitesize)
- �x Acne treatment guidance (The Times)
- �x Public information on scabies and stigma
Engagement with MHRA on isotretinoin regulation continued, with BSPAD contributing to national discussions on safeguarding and prescribing practice.

The Society remains in a stable financial position to support its strategic goals.
## **Constitution and Membership Rules**
In 2024, proposals were brought forward to modernise the constitution by:
- �x Expanding membership categories (Ordinary, Trainee, SAS, Associate, Retired, Medical Student)
- �x Streamlining the application process by removing the requirement for two proposers for BAD/RCPCH members
A membership survey and vote will follow.
## **Reserves**
As a result of the excess of payments over receipts of £6,932 the Society held unrestricted funds of £186,009 at the year-end. This will enable the Society to continue its activities in pursuit of the above aims in the forthcoming year.
## **Trustees' Responsibilities**
The Trustees are required to prepare financial statements for each period which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Society as at the end of the period and of the surplus or deficit for the period. In preparing the financial statements, the Trustees are required to select appropriate accounting policies and apply them consistently, and make judgements and estimates which are reasonable and prudent. The Trustees are responsible for maintaining adequate accounting records, for safeguarding the assets of the Society, and for preventing and detecting fraud and other irregularities.

I report on the financial statements for the year ended 30 September 2024 set out on pages 6 and 7.
## **Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**
consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) or under Regulation 10 (1) (d) of The Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (the 2006 Accounts Regulations) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- �x examine the financial statements under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 and section 44 (1) (c) of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 (the 2005 Act);
- �x to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
- �x to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission and is in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the financial statements presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the financial statements, and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a true and fair view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
- �x to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act and section 44 (1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
- �x to prepare financial statements which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act and section 44 (1) (b) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 9 of the 2006 Regulations have not been met; or
- 2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
