Group Scout Leader Report

This is my first full year as Group Lead Volunteer. We have had a busy year across the group.

In December, our Beavers and Cubs came together for Christmas Camp at Skreens Park. Plenty of Christmas crafts and activities were enjoyed.

In January are Explorers and Scouts attended the Brass Monkey Camp at Thriftwood where the Young People had to build their own shelters, camp fire and camp gadgets. They decide their own menu for the weekend and have to cook for themselves on their camp fire. They are assessed on their shelter, camp tidiness and menus as well as some Scouting activities. This year saw 8 eight Scouts attend Brass Monkey for the first time.

In April, we returned to Thriftwood for our annual Group Camp. We had 54 young people from the ages of 6 to 17 endure a very wet weekend, but not one of them let the weather dampen their spirits.

In May, our Cubs attended District Cub Camp at Tolmers Campsite near Cuffley. The weather was a bit kinder that weekend.

During the summer, our Explorers and Scouts enjoyed a week's Summer Camp in Cumbria.

To celebrate the Group’s 75[th] anniversary, we had a day trip to Chessington World of Adventures with 56 Young People and Adults enjoying the fun and thrills of the rides.

We have had a few fundraising events including the FOSTAS Summer Fun Day, The Loughton day and the biggest yet 3[rd] North Weald Fireworks Event, in partnership with FOSTAS.

We have had a couple of departures from our Cubs Leadership team. I would like to thank those that have left the Group and for all their efforts over the years. I am pleased to announce that Steve Fox will be taking on the role of Cub Leader.

I would like to express my gratitude to all are leaders and volunteers for all the remarkable work they do with our young people. Likewise, I would also like to express my sincerest gratitude to those people moving on from our group. They have done a fantastic job. I am honoured to be leading this wonderful group.

Thank you

Kevin Scott – Group Lead Volunteer
