MICKLETON VILLAGE HALL ASSOCIATION TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31[st] 2022
Volunteers 2022 Activities
The Management Committee normally meet on the first Thursday of every month at 7.30pm.
After over 30 years of being a main part of the association, Marion Hutchinson MBE, my Mum, has sadly stepped down from the committee due to ill health. Prior to her Village Hall involvement, Marion was involved with Mickleton Carnival, and it was this group who not only showed interest in, but agreed to take on the Old Institute Building from the church, and then to go on to discuss, and be proactive in building the village hall we now have and are proud of. Marion has always been a big part of the village hall and will be very much missed. I and the committee would like to thank Marion for the many hours she gave her input to the village hall as secretary.
I would also like to thank Sue Brown for taking over the role of secretary at very short notice.
The two thousand mini daffodils that were planted in The Village Field gave a blanket of colour and interest for people to see where they had planted theirs. To commemorate 70years of Queen Elizabeth II’s, reign we planted a Bird Cherry tree, which is native to the uk, this was in partnership with the Parish Council.
The solar panels, installed in August 2011 raised £1,519.65 in 2022 these funds go towards the hall’s running costs and maintenance.
The Village Field next to the hall is the venue for the popular Summer Carnival normally held on the first Saturday in June, the carnival was as usual well supported.
We had four live music evenings with Albert Lee, Limehouse Lizzy, Voodoo Room, Byran Adams Experience in December.
We decided in October to trail an Online Booking Calendar, this has proved to be a success as anyone can go online and see which dates are available to be booked, this is controlled by myself and the Booking Clerk Jane Roberts.
A check of all safety systems is done every month and the results recorded. Any problems found are sorted ASAP.
The Hall Committee aims to continue to provide support to the various groups and sections using the Hall by the provision of a well maintained and useful facility which is warm and welcoming for all users and an asset to the community.
The Committee would like to thank all the many volunteers who have helped in any way over the past year. The Committee is also grateful to Stephine Lee Sheild and Colin Hutchinson for keeping the premises and field looking immaculate.
Reports from our sections are at the end of the Trustee’s Annual Report. The Management Committee continue to look at new programmes of interest for the benefit of the Association’s members.

Management Trustees Responsibility for the Financial Statements
Charity Commission rules require the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the financial activities of the Association during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:
-
i. Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
-
ii. Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
iii. State whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practices have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in financial statements.
-
iv. Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Association will continue to operate.
The Trustees are also responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Association and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 1993. They are responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Association and hence for taking steps for preventing and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

MICKLETON VILLAGE HALL ASSOCIATION TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31[st] 2022 SECTION REPORTS
The Village Halls Consortium
The Directors of The Village Halls Consortium are grateful to Mickleton VH for allowing the Consortium to continue using the upstairs space for meetings and office equipment. In 2022 we had 3 meetings in the office, the Hall committee did not charge any hire costs. The Hall Committee’s generosity and understanding is much appreciated.
Sarah Yarrow, Secretary for TVHC
Cinema Club
In 2022 we have got back to some form of normality for the Cinema Club with our 2 Films per month on the First and Third Friday of the month at 7pm
A regular brochure is sent to members listing films we intend showing in the four months ahead, this also includes a list of other future events planned in the hall. We had a total of 445 members though the door over the year. We continue to produce the Cinema Newsletter which also promotes other events in the hall.
The cinema facilities are available for use at meetings and parties.
Steve Brown & David Hutchinson
Mickleton LIVE (R’n’B) Club
We had 4 events in 2022, ‘Albert Lee’ on the 7[th] May and a week later ‘Limehouse Lizzy’ then later in the year ‘Voodoo Room’ on the 5[th] Nov followed by ‘Bryan Adams Experience’ on 10[th] Dec. All the3 events were well supported. It was great to have music back in the village hall, there was a real buss in the room, and it was nice to catch up with our guests.
The club attracts high quality national and international groups who regularly return to perform at Mickleton Village Hall.
Details of future gigs can be found on our website @ www.mickletonlive.uk. We have also set up online payment for tickets through PayPal.

MiCE - Mickleton Community Events 2022 Report
The year began with the Christmas tree lights shining brightly at the top of the village hall car park. Our group has continued to go from strength to strength, delivering popular community events and expanding the number of our impressive, willing volunteers. Covid continued to be a concerning factor but we allowed for this in our planning and managed to run all our events.
Our first event of the year was a Curry and Quiz fundraising night on Saturday 26th February. This was so popular we sold out of tickets well before the night! Terry composed a fun quiz using the big screen for the first half and Angie added more conventional general knowledge questions to finish off. Inbetween everyone could enjoy as much curry as they could eat. Choices included chicken tikka masala, biryani, Jamaican lamb, beef madras, Thai red, mild vegetarian etc plus all the trimmings. Everyone went home very happy.
The bulbs all reappeared in March providing a colourful display and reminding us of how MiCE came about. We hope to add to them in future.
Funds raised from the Curry and Quiz night were ear-marked for our next event – an Easter Coffee morning on Saturday 16th April. Our team produced enough soup, sandwiches and cakes to feed all the Mickletonians who attended. A bunny hole was created in the cupboard in the bar area, where children could receive an Easter egg, and lots of craft activities were provided to keep them all busy. There were competitions for the best Easter bonnet and decorated egg, plus the ever popular raffle with a large number of donated prizes.
MiCE members were very involved in the organisation, and running, of the Carnival/Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebrations on Saturday 4th June, another very popular community event.

MICKLETON VILLAGE HALL ASSOCIATION TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31[st] 2022
We ended 2022 by holding our Christmas Cracker Coffee morning on Saturday 17th December. We followed a similar format to the Easter event but this time constructed Santa's grotto in a pergola in the bar area. The children's activity table was busy once again and prizes were awarded for the best decorated Christmas trees and a decoration made entirely from natural materials. The planned Christmas tree festival had to be shelved to leave the room clear enough for a ceilidh the same evening! We plan to make up for this during Christmas 2023. We already have 23 trees stored ready for ourselves and families from Mickleton to decorate, and many more should materialise from various sources. We hope to transform the hall into a magical kingdom for the entire Christmas period.
None of this would be possible without the help, enthusiasm and ideas of all the people who form the MiCE group. They give their time for the good of the village and I can't thank them enough. We are so lucky to have such a fabulous village hall and a very supportive community = all we need to encourage us to organise more events in 2023.
Angela Gillings
The Little Choir
The choir maintains a core of ten members singing in three sections: Lead, Baritone and Bass. We have rebranded as The Little Choir from Teesdale and have adopted the Teesdale gentian as our emblem.
During the year we have expanded our repertoire to cover different styles of song. Our 'sing outs' in the past year have included a variety of fundraising events for Darlington and Barnard Castle Rotary Clubs; Eggleston community luncheon and the lighting of the Christmas tree in Cotherstone. We had the pleasure of taking part in The Stainmore Railway Company's Christmas fair at Kirkby Stephen East railway station and sang carols for guests at The High Force Hotel.
The highlight of the year for us was the opportunity to sing with other choirs at a concert for Ukraine in Central Hall, Darlington.
Sue Kelly
PerformMickleton
The Perform Mickleton section was set up in 2018, to bring more live performances, especially theatre, to Mickleton
Village Hall. We work in association with Highlights Rural Touring, who select top-class acts from around the world, to come and perform in rural village halls across the north of England. In addition, we are very happy to host other performing groups, such as The Castle Players, in line with our aims. We are currently preparing for our 21st show.
We began a busy 2022 season with the return of The Castle Players in Pygmalion .
In March, we hosted Kate Slaughter from Katie’s Textile Landscapes workshop. Several beautiful were produced and everybody had a lovely day.
Kloths for a Mini pieces of embroidery
May saw us welcome Slanjayvah Danza who brought us their blend of Scottish and Spanish dance to a sold-out audience. “Fantastic, so much energy and smiles. Please come back” was one of the many positive reactions.
