MICKLETON VILLAGE HALL ASSOCIATION
TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31[st] 2020
Mickleton Village Hall is well known both locally and further afield as an excellent venue for meetings and private parties through word of mouth and the Hall’s web site www.thevillagehalls.co.uk/the-halls/mickleton-village-halls/
2020 Activities
The Management Committee normally meet on the first Monday of every month at 7.30pm. Due to Covid-19 restrictions we only had 7 meetings.
A check of all safety systems is done every month and the results recorded. Any problems found are sorted ASAP.
The solar panels, installed in August 2011, raised £1611.94 in 2020, which goes towards the hall’s running costs and maintenance.
We produce a Cinema Club Newsletter which as well as listing all films, gives details of all forthcoming fundraising events and details of our regular clubs. Due to Covid-19 we only produced a newsletter for the beginning of the year.
The Village Field next to the hall is the venue for the popular Summer Carnival normally held on the first Saturday in June this year the carnival was cancelled because of the Corvid 19 lock down.
We only had a limited number of events in the hall and all the wedding and private bookings were cancelled.
The Hall Committee aims to continue to provide support to the various groups and sections using the Hall by the provision of a well maintained and useful facility which is warm and welcoming for all users and an asset to the community.
Volunteers
The Committee would like to thank all volunteers who have helped in any way over the past year. The Committee is also grateful to Carolyn Foster, Chris Stamp and Colin Hutchinson for keeping the premises, grounds and field looking immaculate..
Project
Due to Covid 19 restrictions all fund raising events for the project had to be cancelled.
Taking advantage of the lovely weather in April and May the outside space around the north and east sides of the hall and the new building was completed and the field landscaped and reseeded.
The new entrance to the field was tarmacked and a new ramp to west door was made so that equipment can easily be moved form the hall to the storage building, this ramp also give access for the disabled right around the village hall.
The floor of the storage space was laid, the inside walls were painted and shelfing installed thus enabling carnival
equipment to be moved from the cellar in the hall.
The electrical work was completed with the lights and sockets in the building and we installed a number of emergency lights on the outside of the building to help with lighting down the disabled path.

Charity Commission rules require the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the financial activities of the Association during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:
-
i. Select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
-
ii. Make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
iii. State whether applicable accounting standards and statements of recommended practices have been followed, subject to any departures disclosed and explained in financial statements.
-
iv. Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Association will continue to operate.
The Trustees are also responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Association and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 1993. TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT
FOR THE YEAR ENDING DECEMBER 31[st] 2020
Perform Mickleton
The Perform Mickleton section was set up in 2018, to bring more live performances, especially theatre, to Mickleton Village Hall. We work in association with Highlights Rural Touring, who select top-class acts from around the world, to come and perform in rural village halls across the north of England.
In 2020, we were selected by The Castle Players, one of the leading non-professional theatre groups in the North East, to be one venue for their winter tour of The Old Curiosity Shop . We welcomed guests to the February performance, which was much enjoyed by everyone.
Later in the month, in conjunction with Highlights, the village hall was transformed into the Four Horsemen public house, as Box of Tricks Theatre Company brought us The Last Quiz Night on Earth . The audience enjoyed a pie and pea supper with a quiz within a play.
For December, we had booked Celtic Christmas Strings, a harp and guitar duo. They were to play us festive tunes, traditional and modern. Sadly, the COVID-19 tier system was imposed and we had to cancel. We hope to book them again in the future; their music is beautiful.
Performers tell us how much they enjoy the warm welcome and facilities offered by Mickleton Village Hall, and audience members enjoy the range of performances on offer. You can find more information about upcoming shows by emailing MickletonVH@gmail.com and requesting being added to the mailing list; follow us on Twitter @MickletonVH; or keep an eye on the village hall website and village hall notice board.
